John Napolean was my great grandfather and his son Maxwell was my grandfather. John's first wife did die in Texas of TB. I, too, have found her death certificate, but it does not indicate where she was buried, which I would like to know. John remarried Marie, who bore Bertha, named after John's first wife. The family shows up next in Oklahoma City, where John's father Samuel appears in the census alongside John. Family records indicate that Samuel was married to Martha Hanks (Mattie), who had died by the time Sam joined his son's family. An argument can be made that John D and Tabitha were the parents of Sam, but the evidence, in my opinion, is not conclusive. I am also unable to find the family of Mattie Hanks. Geography is one of my litmus tests for accuracy. Consequently, I use state county maps that includes county seats and sponsored by geology.com. Here we go loop-the-loop! 1850 MS-Chickasaw-Western Division-Image 113 has John D. "Prewit" and "Tobitha" as heads of household. Chickasaw is east of Yalobusha County and separated by Calhoun. 1860 MS-Calhoun-Not Stated-Images 83 & 84 has "Tobitha" as head and son "Samiel" is probably the one you seek? 1870 MS-Calhoun-Township 11-Image 4 has Samuel "Pruitt" living with another family. "The real deal" 1880 MS-Tallahatchie-Beat 1-106-Image 39 has Samuel "Pruitt", Martha. *Napolean", and Tully T. Been humming "Billy Joe McAlister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge" since I've found this.(lol) Not crazy, I'm on Eastern Standard Time and have been at this since 4 am. Sam didn't join his son in Texas 'cause he's found with wife Mattie in 190! 0 MS-Yalobusha-Water Valley-District 102-Image 21. Look for "Sample" Prewitt age 49. Well? In spite of multiple clues, this is a very difficult search. My significant contribution is the online death certificate for "Butha Prewitt (6 Aug 1912) in Dallas of TB. That's her 'cause the witness was J. N. and she was buried in Teague. He didn't mourn very long 'cause Bertha was born 23 Oct 1913. The birth record does not include Bertha's name but validation possible through a process of elimination. No marriage record found for Marie Kate Walker/John Nap. Prewitt. Their next issue, John, has two certificates: one as John Francis and the other one as John N., Jr. One certificate lists his mom's birthplace as Texarkana, TX. My very best efforts failed to find her in 1900 or 1910 Bowie County. Too, she died 1962 yet there is no SSDI listing? Do you have her death certificate? Did she have an SSAN? If so, that may represent your best hope of tracing her heritage? As for J. N., he must have been an only c! hild? I'm unable to find him with his father prior to that 1910 Freestone County Census. J. N. and Bertha found 1900 Dallas-Dallas Ward 7. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If she knew names of her parents, then your best hope of learning same will be the Social Security Administration? She's listed on Social Security Death Index(SSDI) with an SSAN. Social security began in 1936 so she would have submitted the request for issuance of a card. There are spaces on the application for names of parents and I've enjoyed success when all other avenues led to roadblocks. Haven't submitted a request in years and understand they are now asking for a copy of the person's death certificate? Makes no sense to me if they are already listed as deceased? Anyway, http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ssa-711.pdf FYI, I used this route to find a "wandering" uncle with the only precise info: names of parents and birth location. That came after I had spent tens of thousands of dollars travelling, to and fro, in futile searches. Good luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
