Batla Sr., from the Fayetteville area. He reportedly immigrated with his parents in 1870, through Galveston. His wife was named Frances, and they had two children: Louise F. Batla and Joseph W. Batla Jr. Joseph Sr. had a half-sister named Annie/Anna Batla, born abt 1863 in Moravia; married Frank Bacak in Fayette County, 1884, and died 1 May 1903 in Elk, McLennan County, Texas.
