Surnames: Miller, Riley, Kemp Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mkB.2ACI/309 Message Board Post: This is concerning an ancestor who is African American. I hope somebody can help. I am trying to find descendants of Ellis Miller, son of Amos and Rachael Miller. Ellis was born probably in April 1852 or 1857-58 in Fayette County. His parents were probably slaves and later employees of William Hamilton Ledbetter, prominent attorney. In 1880, Ellis and his brother Marshall were field hands for Charly and Ella Clark (white) in Fayette County. In 1900, Ellis was working as a farm laborer and married to Carrie Riley (born Oct. 1863 and married Jan. 20, 1884). His previous wife, Augy Kemp (married Aug. 21, 1881) probably died. His children as listed in the 1900 census were Juinie (daughter born Feb. 1888), Lutha (son born Oct 1890), Walner (son born Nov. 1892), Leon (son born Jan 1894) and Blenda (daugher born Feb. 1897). The census was very hard to read so I had to guess on some of these names. Ellis died on Dec. 23, 1935, in Temple, Texas (Bell county). Am eager to find information. Many thanks for your time.
