A drawing and some of this info is online at http://www.rootsweb.com/~fayett/fayarch.html, but it doesn't hurt to remind everyone. The library does have a temporary location at 255 N. Franklin Street (the Senior Citizens Activity Center building) until the renovation is completed! Only a portion of the collection will be available. We will have cemetery records and maps, marriage indexes, census indexes, one microfilm reader/printer and all our film, all local history books, school record books; historical marker binder and downtown La Grange building history binders. We will continue to do quick lookups using those sources. Everything else will be in off-site security storage until January 2005 when they hope to reopen. The renovation came from a combination of public and private funds. FIRST FLOOR of the Fayette Public Library & Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives currently contains 5,966 square feet. The new wing will add 2,328 feet. Renovation will include a redesigned vestibule with north entry, a new handicapped elevator, new library area, new reading areas for children and adults, more vault storage, conference and meeting space, greater computer capacity, office, and fully ADA compliant restrooms. SECOND FLOOR of the building now has 3,700 square feet to be expanded by 3,885 more feet with the new wing and infilling a second floor deck across the current open area. Located here will be an archive reading room and vault, museum collections storage and exhibit display areas, as well as additional restrooms. The renovated library, museum and archives will encompass a total of 15,879 square feet, compared with the existing 9,666. A Capital Campaign Committee has been formed to raise funds for the expansion and renovation project. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Contact the library at (979) 968-3765, or send your donation to: Fayette Public Library, Heritage Museum and Archives 855 South Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945. Please make your checks payable to LMA Capital Campaign. I encourage all of you who have benefited from research there to make a small contribution. We are really going to have a lot more room for research with this the new addition. Rox Ann Johnson Fayette County TXGenWeb Project
