Fatty Arbuckle was a well known comedic actor whose career was highjacked by a politically ambitious San Francisco district attorney. He was tried in the death of an "actress" who likely died of a botched abortion performed some days before she allegedly attended a party given by Arbuckle. She apparently collapsed in the hotel where the party was held and died shortly there after. Arbuckle was arrested and charged with rape and manslaughter. It took the jury about 5 minutes to find him not guilty and the foreman of the jury apologized to him. Still, he had been "tried and convicted" in the newspapers and was considered box office poison by producers. There are several books that expose this tragedy. If related to him, you should not consider him a "black sheep." He was widely considered the equal and perhaps better then the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy and Harold Lloyd. Stan
