My grandmother(my dad's mother) was Amelia Baumgarten. She married my grandfather Joseph Sykora when her family was living in Sweet Home, Texas. Gustav was said to be a farmer there. They lived out the rest of their life in the small town of Yoakum where I grew up. Amelia had several brothers, one of whom was named William also. Amelia's father was Gustav Baumgarten, brother of Christian Baumgarten who, from what I can tell, was the original immigrant from this family to the US. This elder Christian B.had a son named Christian as well? The information I found in the library/historic center at La Grange said that the family came from Prussia/the Tartu area of Europe. They settled in the Schulenburg area and were very influential in many things there. Christian was said to be a builder who had a hand in many things there, including housing for other immigrants arriving from Europe and the original school at High Hill. The name still appears in the town. Are you from that area? I have pictures of Gustav and his wife with their family and would love to know anymore that I could about the family. You probably have all of the information I have related but thought it interesting to find someone else from this family looking for ancestors as me and my wife are.
