Correct pronunciation is Can-da'-ce. She was called Da'-cy and Aunt Da'cy hence the Y on the tombstone. Poem by M. J. McGahan Written to Candace (Criswell) Fitzgerald after her husband, Obadiah Thomas Fitzgerald d:2 January 1896 TRIBUTE OF RESPECT Mrs. Fitzgerald: You have felt and know, since last we met, Much sorrow, grief and care, The world had used you badly, My heart has had its share. The one that you loved, has left you, Gone to the still, cold grave, And cruel fate bereft you, Of one that none could save. For his Savior then was calling, "Come thou unto me." Come here, high up Heaven, I have great need of thee. Brighter days and happier hours may come, But we shall even miss, Uncle Obey's smile, his genial face, Amongst our social midst. When the last trumpet is sounded, For all the just ones to appear, In a robe of spotless white, We shall meet his there. With a crown upon his head, Bedecked with jewels rare, With a harp of may strings, Waiting our coming there. When we enter our Father's mansion, A house that's not built by hands We'll welcome Uncle Obey And abide that happy land. Mrs. M. J. Thanks for responding to my post. There were several Stanzel families in Fayette County at this time, but I have been unable to connect any of them to my particular Ferdinand Stanzel/Theresa Kuntschik family with correct names and dates. I do not know which family Sister Michael Rose Stanzel might belong to. I was hoping someone on the list might recognize an ancestor in my posting. Hi, everyone. With the the Fayette mailing list's wonderful track record, I think we can safely assume that the message was sent unintentionally. I directly contacted the sender earlier, reminding them of the importance of keeping our e-mails on topic. I inadvertently did almost the same thing earlier this week, so I know how easy it is to make a mistake. Changing the subject entirely: if you haven't checked your surnames lately at the Fayette TXGenWeb site, you might try again. I've added a bunch of biographies ca1916 from A History of Texas and Texans. This book doesn't have an index, so even if you've seen it you may have missed entries regarding your ancestors. They're not all online yet, but I'm getting there. Rox Ann Johnson Fayette Mailing List Administrator

Have you been to Schulenburg? There is a Stanzel Model Airplane museum. I have not been there yet but with the museum, there appears to be a family home. I worked with Sister Michael Rose Stanzel for several years at St. Joseph High School in Victoria and she has since moved to San Antonio and works at a High School there. Are you aware of this branch of the Stanzel? I have not been in contact with Sister since she moved in 1999 or so but contacting the museum might be a lead. Sabra Sauer

In the records of St. Mary's Catholic Church at High Hill. there is a marriage for Theresia Kuntschik (b. March 1849) to Ferdinand Stanzel (b. Oct. 1844). They were married 31 January 1876 in Fayette County. Records of birth for the following children are also at St. Mary's: Theresa Stanzel b. 22 January 1878 Baptismal sponsors were Frank Stanzel and Theresa Blaschke Emilia Stanzel b. 31 March 1879 Frank Stanzel and Theresa Blaschke Frank Stanzel b. 17 July 1881 Frank and Rosina Stanzel Anna Stanzel b. 22 July 1884 John and Theresa Blaschke Maria Stanzel b. 4 April 1888 John and Theresa Blaschke I have been unable to locate this family in the 1880 census, but they are shown in the 1900 census living in Pct. #8, Fayette County, TX, household #139. The listing is as follows: Stanzel, Ferdinand Head 55 married 23 years b. Austria F-Austria M-Austria Theresa wife 51 b. Austria F-Austria M-Austria Emilie dau. 21 Single b. TX F-Austria M-Austria Frank son 18 Single b. TX F-Austria M-Austria Anna dau 15 Single b. TX F-Austria M-Austria Mary dau 12 Single b. TX F-Austria M-Austria Kuntschig, Theresa Aunt 78 Single b. Austria F-Austria M-Austria This Theresia (Kuntschik) Stanzel, wife of Ferdinand, was the daughter of Johann and Veronika (Weiss) Kuntschik. She emigrated from Bremen on 10 Sep 1873 aboard the ship "Strassburg" with her widowed mother, Veronika, and sisters Magdalena, Anna, and Antonia. Does anyone on the list know anything else about this family? When Ferdinand and Theresa died and where they are buried? Marriages of any of the children? I have not been able to find any of them on the 1910 census. Perhaps both parents have died and all children married by that time. Would certainly appreciate hearing from anyone who recognizes these people. Mary Jane Dallas, TX
Thanks Maydelle, I looks to be fun with research and fall colors. I am excited about the family history and taking photos. Nothing like fall colors. Take care, hope you are up and running soon. Blessings Phyllis
