Thank you, Rox Ann, for the tip. I have emailed them this morning asking for a lookup. M. M. Guin was born a Williamson county, Tennessee, on the 22nd day of January, 1807, and died at his residence in Schulenburg, Fayette county, on the third day of May, 1885, by reason of strength almost living out his four score. He was married to Miss Mary Carson in 1827, and moved to Texas in 1838. Professed religion during a camp-meeting held in Smith county, Texas, in 1845; and joined the Presbyterian Church, but on reading the Scriptures decided his place was among the Methodists. He was licensed to preach in 1854 and was elected to and received deacon's orders from Texas Conference, by Bishop George F. Pierce, November 28th, 1858. My first acquaintance with Bro. Guin began in the year 1860, in Lavaca county, Texas; he was then a local preacher at Andres Chapel. It was near this place that he lost his first wife. He was again happily married to Mrs. Lucinda Medris in November, 1859, in the State of Mississippi. Bro. Guin was a sufferer and confined ! for years before his death. He bore his afflictions with the fortitude and patience becoming a Christian. It was his delight to converse about an experimental knowledge of the Christian religion. He was want to meditate on the law of the Lord day and night; he seemed only desirous to depart and be with Christ. On the 16th day of June, 1882, he professed sanctification and it seemed as if he was in a new atmosphere radiant with life--on a higher plane of enjoyment than ever before. God, holiness and heaven are his themes now. It was pleasant to associate with him, and it may truly be said, "that the place where the good man meets his fate is privileged beyond the common walks of a virtuous life, quite on the verge of heaven." He was a good citizen, a kind friend, and an obliging neighbor, a loving husband and father. He leaves a wife, children and grandchildren, who mourn his departure. May God comfort the bereaved. Thomas W. Glass Schulenburg, Fayette County, Tex. July 14 (from the "Christian Advocate") Any information on Malcolm and his family would be appreciated.
If you hurry, you can probably still ask the staff at the Fayette Heritage Archives and Museum to check their database of burials in Fayette County for you. <library@fais.net> Next week they begin moving back into their renovated building and will not be answering queries or have the archives open until mid-March. Hello, I am researching the family of EMIL WEISHUHN, born March 1860 in Texas. He was marrried to EMMA VOIGHT who was born December 12, 1861 also in Texas. According to my research, EMIL and EMMA had a daughter LINA or LENA WEISHUHN who married EDGAR BURTRAM CLARK January 5, 1909 in Washington County, Texas. EDGAR BURTRAM CLARK died shortly after he and LINA were married on January 4, 1912. After finding EDGAR CLARK and LINA on the 1910 census in Washington County, I have been unable to find LINA again. I would assume she lived longer and possibly remarried. EMIL WEISHUHN and his wife EMMA were found mainly in Fayette County on the census. EMIL and EMMA were divorced between the 1910 and 1920 census years. I would like to know more about this family and what happened to LINA WEISHUHN CLARK. I would also like to know where EMIL AND EMMA WEISHUHN are buried. I found a lot of the WEISHUHN family in Fayette county. Any help appreciated and I am willing to share what I have. Actually, I should have written "birth records since 1926 and marriage and death records from the sixties on. . . " Rox Ann In a message dated 1/28/05 1:03:54 AM, RoxAnnJohn@aol.com writes: > you'll usually get vital > records from the sixties on for anywhere in the state. >
Lana, Take a look at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/txsearch.html Usually, you'll get too many results using just a surname, but try "Doe John" with one space and "Doe John" with two spaces and you'll usually get vital records from the sixties on for anywhere in the state. Hi, I normally do my "free" Texas research at the following web site: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/ The only problem is that you need to know both the county and the year. You can still do the research, but without having the county and the year (or good "guesstimates") it can be a time consuming task. If anyone knows of a "free" search for the entire state, by simply putting in a Surname and then you can find the year and the county as well, I would like to know about it. Thanks, Lana

how wonderful they will have a new and improved facility....I wish all the libraries in the world would stay open and available! Stephanie Warren
Fayette Public Library will be closed to the public from Monday, January 31, through Monday, February 21, for the move back to the renovated facility at 855 S. Jefferson in La Grange. The three-week closure will allow staff and volunteers to set up the library in the new, renovated space. The library will reopen to the public on Tuesday, February 22, at 10 a.m. The museum and archives will reopen in March. An official rededication event is planned for later in the spring. During the temporary closure, no library services will be provided to the public. This includes processing requests for library and archives materials, telephone and electronic reference services, and public Internet and email access. Checkout dates will be extended during the time the library is closed. All books, magazines, and recordings checked out from the library between January 18 and January 30 will be due back on February 22. Because of the extended loan period, there is no need to call the library for renewals during this time. The large book drop outside the Senior Citizen Center at 255 N. Franklin will be open during the move, and patrons can return borrowed items there while the library is closed. Taxpayers can continue to obtain IRS tax forms from the racks atop the book drop until the library reopens. The library welcomes community volunteers to help with the move. City crews will do all the heavy lifting and moving of boxed books, shelving, and furniture. Volunteers are needed to assemble the storage boxes and pack the library books. Volunteers are needed before and during the move. To volunteer, call the library at 979-968-3765. The staff will provide additional information, including move dates, times, and assignment schedules.
