Right now I am working on James W. Fisher.....He is listed on line in Ancestry.com as "William J. Fisher," son of Thomas Dance Fisher, who married Evelyn Dycus. I believe this to be in error. He is listed as James W. Fisher in the 1860 Fayette Co, census living with his sister Isabella Budd after both parents died in 1853. He is named as James W. in court cases where his older brother Rufus and his older sister Isabella are arguing over their father's will. I have also found where a James W. Fisher was a Confederate soldier. Can anyone help clarify this inconsistency? I would like to have much more information on him.
----- Original Message ----- From: HOWARD CANNON Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2005 9:01 PM Subject: Fw: Smart women . Never Try To Outsmart A Woman There was a man who had worked all his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real miser when it came to his money. Just before he died, he said to his wife, "When I die. I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the afterlife with me." And so he got his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him. Well, he died. He was stretched out in the casket; his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait just a minute!" She had a box with her; she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down, and then rolled it away. So her friend said, "Girl, I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there with your husband." The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I'm a Christian, I can't go back on my word. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him." "You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him!!!!?" "I sure did" said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and wrote him a cheque. If he cash it, he can spend it." Women Are Smarter Than Men Due to inherit a fortune when his sickly, widower father died, Charles decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with. Going to a singles' bar, he spotted a woman whose beauty took his breath away. "I'm just an ordinary man," he said, walking up to her, "but in just a week or two, my father will die and I'll inherit 20 million dollars." The woman went home with Charles, and the next day she became his stepmother. Understanding Women (A Man's Perspective) I know I'm not going to understand women. I'll never understand how you can take boiling hot wax, pour it onto your upper thigh, rip the hair out by the root, and still be afraid of a spider. Words A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day ... 30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men. The husband then turned to his wife and asked "What?" Stupid And Beautiful A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time." The wife responded, "Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!" The Beast Husband and wife were in the midst of a violent quarrel, and hubby was losing his temper. Be careful," he said to his wife. "You will bring out the beast in me." "So what?" his wife shot back. "Who's afraid of a mouse?" Coffee A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee." The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee." Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him the top of several pages, that it indeed says.... I believe the District Clerk's Office handles the divorce records. There is a link to their website and a phone number under "Government Links" on the Fayette County TXGenWeb site. You can quickly check the marriage database for the Duncan record at the Fayette Heritage Museum & Archives by e-mailing library@fais.net. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mkB.2ACI/363 Message Board Post: Nancy R(uth) Cunningham Ray Duncan is the older half-sister of my great-grandfather, C. M. 'Neal' Cunningham. There's my connection. Now what I need to know. Between censuses 1870 and 1880 Nancy's left her father's household, last appearing there in 1870, married Archibald 'Archie' Ray 2/23/1871 and by 1880 shows up with her 2nd hubby John G. Dunkin/Duncan (the latter the true spelling; the former as it appears on the 1880) in Bastrop Co. We are sure her and Archie divorced as in 1880 he appears on a cousin's farm in Newton Co. Does Fayette Co. have archived divorce records? and if so, how do I go about seeing if Archie's and Nancy's is available and get a copy of it? I do have a copy of their marriage licence. Also, I need to know if she married Duncan in Fayette Co., though it may be Bastrop Co. since they are there in 1880, but I want to rule out Fayette Co. first. She would have been Nancy Ray when she married John G. Duncan (or however the person writing it all up wrote! it), unless she went back to her maiden name but with two kids I doubt that. Any help will be appreciated. BTW, there were two Cunningham families in Fayette Co. The one of James Cunningham is mine, he is distinct in that he was born in England. The other Cunningham family hails out of Tennessee and aren't mine, though common names for the times show up in both families. James Cunningham 1st married Rebecca Fitzgerald, had 9 kids, she died in Dec. 1860. In Mar. 1863 he marr. widow Lucinda J. Bolton Jones (a neice by marriage to Rebecca's sister Wilmouth Fitzgerald Cleveland) who had one child and yet fathered 10 kids with her. A total of 19 kids between two wives. Geez. Teresa Parrish
Hi, everyone. I've gotten two requests in two days asking if I knew someone who would take photographs of particular tombstones in Fayette County. One was for a cemetery at Cistern and the other at Haw Creek. I know that most of you live outside the county, but I'm wondering if someone would be interested in this kind of work. I think that both persons would be willing to pay you for your trouble. Please respond to me off list as we really can't use it as a money-making venue. I just need to have someone I can refer people to in the future. Thanks, Rox Ann Johnson Coordinator, Fayette County TXGenWeb Project
Entertainment planned for Fayette County Courthouse rededication LA GRANGE - Saturday's rededication of the Fayette County Courthouse will include several notable politicians and feature a wide variety of entertainment throughout the day. The actual rededication ceremony will start at 10 a.m. on the courthouse grounds. Fayette County Judge Edward Janecka will serve as the master of ceremonies. The list of guest speakers invited to participate are U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, State Comptroller and Republican gubernatorial candidate Carole Keeton Strayhorn, State Board of Education member Cynthia Thornton, State Representative Robby Cook and District Judge Dan Beck. Opera singer Sonya Caballero will perform at 9:35 a.m. followed by Gospel singer Kathryn Gonzalez. A five-minute program of patriotic music will precede the ceremony. Following the ceremony, there will be tours of the courthouse, driving tours in antique cars and tours of the old Fayette County Jail. Entertainment will be offered on both the east and west side lawns of the courthouse at 30-minute intervals. Performing on east side will be Chris Rybak, Round Top Blue Grass, Equippers Gospel, Jim Holmes and Ballan Keen Jam session and Donnie Blanz. West side performers include the Fayette Czech Singers, Roadrunners Square Dancers, Winedale German Singers and PoLKA, the Polka, Lovers Klub of America. In addition, gunfight re-enactors will perform in period costume. Terry Ross will play the harp inside the courthouse. The Fayette County courthouse restoration project cost an estimated $5.6 million with $4 million of that financed through a Texas Historic Commission Courthouse Restoration Grant. Completed earlier this year, the project took about two and half years to complete. The Fayette County Courthouse originally opened in 1891. J. Riely Gordon, one of the foremost Texas architects of the era, designed it. One of the key aspects of the restoration project was restoring the central atrium that was part of the original design. The atrium area was enclosed in 1948 to provide additional office and storage space in the courthouse. Other work included updating the courthouse's heating and air conditioning system and the construction of a new handicap ramp necessary to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for sitting. For more information on the ceremony, contact Jennifer Hudson at 361-865-3920 or by e-mail at chamber@flatoniachamber.com or Cathy Chaloupka at 979-968-5756, ext. 3 or by e-mail at cathy@lagrangetx.org.
