The Ship "Estafette" that arrrived Oct. 3, l850, there were 27 names listed. Amonge whom were two families from the Village of Winzlar, Hannover, West Germany. #6 was W. EBERHARD, 2 PERSONS (MAN & WIFE?) #7 WAS F HOERMANN, 6 PERSONS. F. Hoermann was my Gr-Gr Grandfather. I don't know who the 6 people were, I only know of 4.'' Was there a family connection between Hoermann and the Eberhard family? Where did the Eberhard family settle, in Fayette Co. as did the Hoermanns ? Any info on these families appereciated. Will share what I have.

I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory of evolution. Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game. "But it's a Christian prayer," some will argue. Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect-somebody chanting Hare Krishna? If I went to a football game in Jerusalem, I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer. If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad, I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer. If I went to a ping pong match in China, I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha. And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit. When in Rome... "But what about the atheists?" is another argument. What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer! Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations. Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating; to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying. God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well ... just sue me. The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard... that the vast majority don't care what they want. It is time the majority rules! It's time we tell them, you don't have to pray; you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right. But by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back ... and we WILL WIN! God bless us one and all ... especially those who denounce Him. God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God. May 2005 be the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions. Keep looking up. If you agree with this, please pass it on. If not... delete and God bless you. Darla Trevino

I have seen most of the records concerning these families, as they are my ancestors, but I have not seen that document. I knew about it from this site. After T. J. Walker died on Apr 30, 1881, Julia sold all of the assets of the estate and moved away. I suppose that the slaves were free by then. There are 2 unmarked graves in the Mullens Prairie Cemetery (where Asa Simmons Mercer, Martin Riser and T. J. Walker are all buried) which are thought to be slaves.

Hi, everyone. Thanks to Sandy Otto, one of my previously unidentified family photos has just been identified. See the Louis Melcher photograph at http://www.rootsweb.com/~txfayett/unidentifiedphotos.htm This is the second one of my personal photos that someone has recognized online. Though Sandy and I aren't related, we do have common relatives and she had photos of the same girls. I strongly encourage you to try your luck at posting your unidentified photos. You never know when the right person will see them, but that can't happen if they're stuck in a box or thrown in the trash. You can e-mail me jpeg images or you can mail me really good photocopies to get your photos put online at the Fayette County TXGenWeb site. (By the way, I do the same thing on my Lavaca County site.) Seeking parents and siblings of Samuel K. Lewis b abt 1807 in SC. He married Marshall Ann (maiden name unknown). He is shown on the 1850 census of Fayette Co., TX as a farmer with $8K in real estate. He is living in dwelling #171 with his wife and 8 children. He was living in MS in 1833 and had migrated to TX sometime after 1835. Would like to know more about the family, friends, and activities (war service etc) of Samuel K. Lewis. Thanks, Teresa

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mkB.2ACI/381.1 Message Board Post: Tammy: Do you have access to the 1860 U.S. census? I think roll M653_1294, page 354 (physical document page 191), Fayette Co., TX, Oso Post Office may be of interest. A Francis Justice, age 32, born Alabama, is listed on line 37 as living alone in dwelling 1958, but is shown as female...I have Francis Marions and May Martins and other males in my line showing up constantly as female on census data, so I thought this might be a hit. But of particular interest is that Justices sprinkle that page and the next, including the family of D.W. Justice, 39, born Alabama; D.P. Justice, 58, evidently widowed, born New York; Joseph Justice, 22, born Alabama; John C. Justice, 20, born Alabama. Taking a big leap of faith that these families are all related and moved to Texas at the same time, the ages and birth locations of D.W.'s children would indicate the line came through Mississippi circa 1847-1850, and arrived in Texas after 1850 but before 1855. That said, D.W. (David) Justice, his wife Sarah, son John, and daughter Daria seem to be living in the household of Alexander McDonald, 69, a minister born in Alabama, according to the 1850 census, Mississippi, Pontotoc County, roll M432_380, page 91. Of interest here, though, is the adjacent family of Tabitha P. Justice, 48, evidently widowed, born North Carolina, with children Franklin, 25; Mary, 21; Eliza, 18; Joseph, 16; Deletilia (sp?) 12; John, 11; Sarah, 8; all born Alabama except Sarah, who was born in Mississippi. No sign of the D.P. Justice seen in Fayette Co. in the 1860 census, who would be about the same age as Tabitha P. Justice. If you're in Spring, a quicker first trip than Fayette County would be the Clayton Genealogical Library (http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/clayton/). You can check their holdings of Fayette County microfilm/fiche before you go at http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/clayton/clmca22.html#Texas. Happy hunting!
There is an obit for Mrs Justice on the Colorado County TXGenWeb site. At the time that she died (1902) her husband was still alive and living in the Live Oak community of Colorado County. You will find a copy of her obit at http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcolora/obits/obitsj1.htm#Justice,%20Anna A list of the known burials in the Live Oak Cemetery may be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcolora/cemeteries/cemeteries_l.htm#Live%20Oak I do not know if the grave of Mrs. Justice is marked or not. I do know that there are many unmarked graves in the cemetery. Mr. Wagley was lovingly marked any area which he found that indicated a grave site with a wooden cross.
