Hope Hodges Hightower was born March 7, 1923 in Sulphur, OK to Roy Babbitt and Rosie Milligan Hodges. After a valiant battle with cancer, she gently left us for a better place December 9, 2002. Hope always considered herself a native Texan, and the circumstance of being born in Oklahoma a twist of fate. Hope was the great granddaughter of Fannin County Pioneer Fleming M. And Ethel E. Watwood Hodges, who arrived from Sumner County Tennessee in 1857, and the granddaughter of George Washington and Harriet Brazier Dyer Hodges. She was the great great granddaughter of Andrew Jackson and Marina Bruce Allen Perryman, who arrived in Lamar Co. TX in the 1840's. Her maternal great grandparents were Charles A.M. and Martha L. Perryman Milligan. She was preceded in death by all nine of her siblings: Thelma Cleadus, Ruby Ellen, Rosie Estelle, Margie Geneva, Roy Odessa, Hiawatha Brazier, Kathleen Joye, Roy Babbitt Jr, and Marion Dyer. Our "Nini" was the matriarch of the family, guiding and watching her daughters, and her "grandbabies'. Her grace and beauty were only outshone by her inner strength and devotion to her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years, Eddie Lee Hightower, and it was truly a match made in heaven. She also leaves two daughters, Marsa Elaine Hightower and Greg Bounds, Sheila Kaye and Don Dolezal, grandaughter Stacey Elaine Dolezal, (all of Dallas, Texas), grandson Chad Hightower Dolezal and wife Danielle of San Diego, California, Paul Evans and wife Kara, and great grandsons Gage and Ashton Evans of Dallas, and 3 generations of nieces and nephews. "Aunt Hope" was always there for everyone in her family; and her warmth and generosity of spirit will always be remembered. Our Hope will be buried in the land donated as a cemetery by her ancestors near the community of Maxey Texas in Lamar County. Formerly known as the Perryman Cemetery, Hope will rest with many generations of her family at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Maxey, Lamar County. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM on Wednesday, December 11, at Fry Gibbs Funeral Home, 730 Clarksville St., Paris Texas. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Maxey Texas at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 12.
I am so sorry about your lost. jean wood dingman , at one time I lived in Greenville and my mother knew a Mrs. Hightower. I don't know if it was the same. She was nice. I received a very sweet note from her when my mother, Ruby Ross, died in 1976. ----- Original Message ----- From: <MarsaH@aol.com> To: <TXFANNIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 4:58 PM Subject: [TXFANNIN-L] Hope Hodges Hightower - 3/7/23-12/9/02 > Hope Hodges Hightower was born March 7, 1923 in Sulphur, OK to Roy Babbitt > and Rosie Milligan Hodges.
