Looking for grave of James Strahan (this could be spelled a number of different ways). He probably died about 1876-1877 in Fannin County. My first guess would be around Honey Grove, as that is where his two sons were born in 1871 and 1876. It is likely that the grave isn't marked. My second thought is around Paris, as that is where his widow remarried in 1877. This is a Great-Great-Grandfather. Would the cemeteries in those two areas have cemetery books that recorded all burials whether there was a gravestone or not? Would it be possible to write to them? My aunt and I found my great-grandfather's grave and place a marker on it, at another location by using the cemetery book, but of course it was a much later date. Any information would be very helpful. Reba Sanford Schafer
He's not listed in the interment records for Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove which is the largest one. I am walking and indexing that cemetery now. I have only one of the older sections left to complete and I have not found a stone for him. Do you think there might have been a probate of a will or property when he died? That might give you a death date. Suzie On 9/14/07, Reba Schafer <[email protected]> wrote: > > Looking for grave of James Strahan (this could be spelled a number of > different ways). Thanks so much for the information. I will keep looking. I haven't tried looking for the probate of a will yet. What about other cemeteries in the area? How could I find out about their interment records? Do they have addresses where I could write to them?
