    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: crvines Surnames: vaden, blankenship, brown, pennington, drumwright Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.fannin/4183.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: For those who view this list, I have compiled this writing from all the information I have collected along with the data received from suzie5406 on the Fannin County, Texas message board (the thread starts at http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.fannin/4183/mb.ashx) and pdsain on the Lamar County, Texas message board (the thread starts at http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.lamar/3673/mb.ashx). First, I would like to thank suzie5406 and pdsain for their input. So, here we go. The Blankenship and Vaden family had known each other for several generations going back to Chesterfield County, Virginia. Annie's mother, Mickey Austin, was a Blankenship. One Braddock Vaden married one Prudence Blankenship 21 DEC 1826 in Chesterfield Co., VA. Elizabeth Vaden married Pleasant Blankenship 28 MAR 1789 in Chesterfield Co., VA. Lemuel Vaden married Winnie Blankenship 11 JUL 1793 in Chesterfield Co., VA. And finally, William Vaden married Grace Blankenship 11 APR 1804 in Chesterfield Co., VA. It is my belief that the Vaden's and Blankenship's of Western Tennessee came from families that had known each other for many years and in some cases may have been marrying 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cousins. John W Blankenship was the son of Josiah Blankenship and Matilda Unknown. He was born November 30, 1821 in Madison, Alabama. Ann Elizabeth Vaden (?) was born November 20, 1826 in Virginia. I believe that Annie E (or Ann Elizabeth) is the same person as Elizabeth A Blankenship who is listed in the will of Delaney Dodson (D D) Vaden. Still looking for final proof. That would make her the daughter of Delaney Dodson Vaden and Mickey Austin Blankenship. The parents of D D are unknown at this time. The parents of Mickey are Stanton (or Staunton) Blankenship and Susanna Perdue. Ann's siblings were Richard S, Martha S, Dorothy Francis (Fanny), Mary Jane, Hanna W, Henry C, Henrietta, Matilda, Joseph Lock, and Robert W. In 1850, John (28) and Ann Elizabeth (24) are in Lauderdale County, Tennessee with one child, Thomas G (11/12). (see 5, below). In 1860, Census entry has not been found. In 1870, John (48) and Ann (43) are in Lauderdale County, Tenessee with children, Merry (19), Josiah (16), Elen (16), Johnana (4), Robert (1), and Matilda Vaden (27). NOTE: The age for Matilda match with the Matilda Vaden in D D Vaden's household in the 1850 Gibson Co., TN census. If this is the same Matilda, then Ann (Elizabeth) may well be Elizabeth A Blankenship in D D Vaden's will. In 1880, John (58) and Annie E (55) are in Lamar County, Texas with children, John Ana (or Johnana) (14), Robert (11), and Ida (7). In 1900, John (78) and Ann E (73) are in Hunt County, Texas with Robert (b. Dec 1868), Loutishe (b. Feb 1871, Robet's wife), and Jessie O (b. June 1890, Robert and Lou's daughter). John listed born Nov 1821 and Ann born Nov 1836 (actually 1826). In 1910, John is not listed. He died in April, 1910 while the census record date is June 1, 1910. So, based on census data, John and Ann had the following children Thomas G - b. abt 1849 Merry (or Mary) - b. abt 1851 Josiah - b abt 1854 Elen - b abt 1854 NOTE - Since 1870 census list Josiah & Elen as 16, could they be twins????? Johnana - b abt 1866 Robert - b Dec. 1868 Ida - b abt 1873 NOTE: This list seven children. The 1900 census states that Ann had eleven children, four were still alive. There are four children that are not accounted for. Ann Elizabeth Blankenship died February 22, 1902 and is buried in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Fannin County, Texas. John W (Wesley) Blankenship died April 22, 1910 and is buried in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Fannin County, Texas. Concerning their children. Further research is needed for verification, but this is what we have to date. Ellen M Blankenship married H S Drumwright 2 Dec 1874 in Lauderdale County, Tn. I have no other information on this couple at this time. Mollie Blankenship married William D Pennington 8 Nov 1871 in Lauderdale County, Tn. I have no other information on this couple at this time. Robert W Blankenship married Loutishie (Lou) Hulsey August 30, 1889 in Hunt County, Tx. In 1900, Robert is listed with his wife (Loutishe) and daughter (Jessie O) in his parents house in Hunt County, Tx In 1910, Robert is listed with his wife (Lou ) and daughter (Jessie O) in Hunt County, Tx. Also listed is Stanley Blackman, 15 black male/servant. In 1920, Robert is listed with his wife (Lou) in Hunt County, Tx. In 1920, Jessie Brown is listed as wife of Clifton Brown head of household in Hunt County, Tx. In 1930, Josie/Jessie Brown is listed with her husband Clifton in Hunt County, Tx. Listed with them are children, R W (8) and Ruby G (7). In Clifton's WW1 draft registration, Clifton Ralph Brown is listed in Rt2, Celeste, Hunt Co. Tx with next of kin listed as Jessie Brown. Robert Blankenship (1868-1926) - Buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Fannin County, TX (http://www.rootsweb.com/~txfannin/ceme-grovehill.html) Lou Blankenship (1871-1928) - Buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Fannin County, TX (http://www.rootsweb.com/~txfannin/ceme-grovehill.html) Clifton R Browne (August 5, 1885-Septempber 11, 1976 - Buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Fannin County, TX (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=brown&GScid=823989&GRid=8936523&) Jessie B Browne (June 28, 1890-January 26, 1970) - Buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Fannin County, TX (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=brown&GScid=823989&GRid=8936514&) ---- On a side note, R W Vaden married Eugenia E Gaines on Dec 1, 1868. R W is Robert Wylie Vaden (my wife's g-g-grandfather) is the son of D D Vaden and Mickey Blankenship. Eugenia died in 1871 due to complications during the birth of their son, Eugene. Robert married Mary Ann Motley. Their children are James Clay (b. August 06, 1876 in TN), Zadie (b. February 26, 1879 in TN), Claude Hartley (b. January 17, 1882 in TN, he married Della Mae Williams of Hunt County, TX), Edna Earle (b January 26, 1884 in TN, died as an infant), William Thomas (b. November 27, 1886 in Wolfe City, Hunt County, TX), and Annie (b. October 01, 1889 in Wolfe City, Hunt County, TX). Matilda Vaiden married George E Moore. Matilda is the daughter of D D Vaden and Mickey Blankenship. Vaiden is a common respelling of Vaden. Matilda is also listed living in the household of John W and Ann Blankenship in the 1870 census of Lauderdale Co, TN. If this is the Ann and Matilda that I think it is, then they may are sisters and the daughters of D D and Mickey. Elizabeth is 3rd born & Matilda is 9th born.. Their parents died in the 1850's, so Ann could have been Matilda's guardian until she married in 1871. D D has another daughter named Hannah W who married Thomas Jefferson (T J) Hailey. They moved to Fannin county sometime before 1880. T J and Hannah are buried in Grove Hill Cemetery in Fannin County, Tx. R W (Robert Wylie) moved to Hunt County, Tx in the late 1880's. Except for his son, Claude Hartwell, Robert's family moved to Stamford, Jones County, Texas sometime in the 1890's. So for a time, Ann Blankenship, Robert Wylie Vaden, and Hannah W Hailey all lived relatively close to each other. Wolfe city is in northern Hunt County, while the Grove Hill Cemetery is southern Fannin county. Probably about 20 miles apart. And Ann, Robert, and Matilda living in close proximity in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. There are other sources, besides what is listed below, that I do not have quick access to at this time. As I find them, I will post to this article. If you would like to make corrections or additions to this article, please reply to this. I will add the data to my records and give due credit as source. Also, feel free to ask questions if something is not clear. And finally, I have started The Vaden Family Research Center. It is currently small, but I will be adding information to it on all Vaden lines I have researched.
