Texas did not begin to record deaths until 1903 but most of the cemeteries have been surveyed, if there was a stone you may find some Nolan's. Carter county was formed in 1907 from the Chickasaw Lands. Found the Nolen's in 1900 by using Thomas born appx 1847 /- two years in MS finds them in Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation listed as MELEN. 18 June 1900; Census Place: Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory; Roll: T623 1848; Page: 17B; Enumeration District: 142. Thomas Melen age 54 born June 1845 MS married 32 yrs, father SC, mother NC, policeman, could read/write, record looks like he owned his home no mortgage. Low/Lou Melen age 48 born 5/1852 AR, mother of 5 living children of 8, father IL, mother MO, could read/write Laura Melen age 21 10/1878 TX, daughter listed as L L in 1880 census Mettie?, name blurred, Willie? Melen age 20 son born Nov 1879 TX, listed as W H born 1880 in the 1880 census. Nellie Melen age 12 born 9/1887 Indian Territory Name: Bud Nolen Home in 1900: Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory Age: 26 Born Oct 1873 TX, single, father MS, mother --, Race: White occupation listed as gambler and was a "United States Prisoner" in the US Jail in Ardmore. Lewis was born TN abt 1867 had a son Lee born 1897 TX, Loid born 1912, Wesley born 1914 and Tom 1918.
