Hello list, I heard the other day that Risser Hospital and Dr. Joe A. Risser's records were destroyed after the hospital went out of business and after the doctor was no longer in practice!! Can the be done??? Was it done?? Thanks everyone and I'll appreciate any answers or comments. Linda
Linda, Usually when a doctor's practice is dissolved ( no one bought the practice ) the doctor or the family, if the doctor has died, put an ad in the paper that anyone wishing their records to contact them. After a certain time, any left are destroyed to protect patients privacy. Today, most hospitals and offices keep only active records on hand. Patients not seen in 2 or more years have their records stored in warehouse storage. After a few years, depending on state law and the facilty, records are destroyed.
