I checked to see if there was any mention in the Dallas Morning News Archives but had no luck. There are a few issues of some Bonham papers from the 1880's on microfilm at the Sam Rayburn Library...but they are spotty at best, not indexed and rat eaten with large holes right where you want to read....and they don't have a microfilm printer! Other than that, it's perfect. I doubt it's worth you $ to pay someone to go dig for you. Check http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ to see if there are any early editions of the Bonham or Honey Grove, Ladonia or Leonard newspapers from that era. Ladonia is close to Pecan Gap and may have covered it. Any issues will be on microfilm....likely at The University of Texas at Austin. If the dates are covered, it might be worth asking someone to look...perhaps a Random Act of Genealgical Kindness??? http://www.raogk.org/ The early Honey Grove newspapers were also destroyed by fire. The Bonham Library has microfilms of the Bonham papers but they start in the early 1900's...nothing before then. The Baptist Standard is another newspaper you might check. Publishing of this paper actually started in Honey Grove and was later moved to Dallas....so much news of the day was covered. I'm not sure of the dates of publication and I'm in the midst of a family weekend, so can't look it up and be more informative...but the Chronicling America website can give you publication dates and availablity. Hope this helps.
