I believe the father's name is Anthony, although in the referenced publication he is referred to only as "Mr. Brown". I am seeking confirmation of his name in order to pursue his ancestry. According to this reference, Mr. Brown was a native of Wake County, North Carolina. He moved to Alabama in 1832 for one year, then to Mississippi for 5 years. His wife was Nancy Herring of Sampson County, North Carolina. She died in 1837, apparently in Mississippi. Shortly after the death of his wife, Mr. Brown then moved to Arkansas for 9 years. In the fall of 1846 he settled in Fannin County, Texas and lived there until his death in 1868. As of 1889 which was the publication date of the referenced book, John H Brown was the only living child of the six children born to his parents. The other siblings were not named. John H Brown was born 16 miles from Raleigh, North Carolina, June 21, 1825. He settled in Fannin County, Texas with his father in 1846. On Aug 18, 1850 he married Elizabeth Davenport of Fannin County, Texas. In 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate army. In 1869 he took up residence in Grayson County, Texas. The family included eleven children. Four of the children were deceased as of 1889: George W. Brown John R. Brown David R. Brown and Bird Brown Seven children were then living: Robert J. Brown (my g-grandfather) Cynthia A. Brown Martha L. Brown Nannie R. Brown Lizzie Brown Jessie C. Brown William A. Brown.
