You now have to register to log into the new fsbeta site and only get access to the Death Certificate images if you are a "Premier member" ie a member of the LDS Church or and Indexer. I guess keeping the Local Family History Center open for three years counts for nothing. It doesn't take much indexing "90 points in a quarter" but they don't seem willing to share how much you index to earn your 90 points... 90 names? 90 pages? 90 rolls of microfilm? I'll let you all know if I find out. Suzie
Please keep us informed -- Since these are public records they are using, I'm betting on one more big outcry when this is broadcast about. I mis-spoke in my earlier note. You have to have 900 indexing "points" but I still don't know what a point is... I get the impression is part of the problem may be the State of Texas not wanting the collection freely available... but this is only impressions on my part. I don't have any definitive information. If the state allowed the filming I doubt that they have now backtracked. "Texas has recorded deaths from 1903 to the present, plus about 250 registrations from the 1890s-1939, and nearly 2,000 delayed registrations of death from 1890s-1990, as reported from obituaries and probate records. " Texas death records are closed for 25 years, per the Texas Department of Health. So what the LDS is/was offering are public records, I believe. *** see below Trevia Wooster Beverly Houston, Texas Thank you for contacting FamilySearch concerning image unavailable messages in collections.
