    1. Re: [TXFANNIN] notes from various burials
    2. Ron Turner
    3. Thanks, Debra.  That's very good information.  I do have a few obituaries from relatives buried in Fannin County that I can transcribe and submit. However, I was mainly referring to providing known dates and relationships for individuals that I have researched and are in my database.  An example is my great-grandparents that are buried at Grove Hill Cemetery - John Hamilton Carter and Mary Ann Owens Carter.  They have individual tombstones that are next to each other but there's no indication either at the grave site or on the web site that they were married.  In addition, her father, James Washington Owens, is buried just a few feet away but there's no indication on the website of that relationship.  And, his father and mother, Samuel Swan Owens, Jr. and Mary Carter Owens, are buried nearby.  And, Mary Carter Owens is related to John Hamilton Carter.   There are also a number of tombstones that have only the year and I can provide month and day as well for the notes section.  How much detail is wanted?  This is the kind of info Suzie can tell me whether she wants it or not. I also have a number of death certificates that I can transcribe and submit. Thanks. The Lamar County web site has a Cemetery and Burial look up index on  it.  If your person is there that you are searching for, it gives their  name, their date of birth, their date of death, the cemetery they were buried in  and even the plot number.  In most cases......and they are trying to get  this for EVERY entry....there will be a copy of the obituary transcribed from  whatever newspaper it was in. When someone sends me a request to go lookup an obituary for them, after I  find it on Microfilm at Paris Junior College, and before I send it to the  requestor....I look at that person on the Lamar County C & B index to see if they are there, if they are not, I transcribe ALL the information, including the  obituary information, from the newpaper obit in an email and send it to our  countie's website coordinator.  She gradually loads what I send on the  site. You might be able to just transcribe the obituary information in an email  and send it to Suzie.  Obits are wonderful and have great information to  research with.  Just be sure you put at the bottom something like: Transcribed by Mr. Turner. This is to protect you, the Fannin site, Suzie against problems with  copywrite issues. Just a suggestion.  Thanks. Debra Usry P.S. They are also on working to add tombstone pictures to the other  information on the Lamar County Site _THE DEATH AND CEMETERY  RECORDS OF LAMAR COUNTY, TEXAS_ (http://theusgenweb.org/tx/lamar/cemetery/)  ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TXFANNIN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Suzie, I'm running Windows XP with IE 8 here at the office and the new site looks fine.  I'll test tonight at home since that computer is Vista with IE 8. Question for you.  Are you interested in having notes about various burials if we can provide them?  For example, this person is the wife/husband of that person, son/daughter of this couple/person, etc.  If you are interested, how do you want to us to get the info to you? Thanks for all your excellent work! 1. [TXFANNIN] So much good feedback!
    2. Suzie Henderson
    3. So many people sent info, I thought I'd send a new message rather than pick one to reply to. I think the problem is NOT Vista...but Internet Explorer regardless of which version of Windows you are using. I design on a Mac with Firefox as my primary Browser but also test with Opera and Safari. I have access to IE at the Family History Center once a week and have not seen the problems I saw tonight...so it may be that the screen resolution may be what's causing the distortion. They do have a 24 inch monitor and I've designed for a 15 inch screen to make sure the "poor folk" without unlimited income to buy new monitors don't have to scroll left/right just to see results. The "secret site" is secret because it is "not yet ready for prime time". Your feedback will help me get it ready for prime time. It will move to http://www.txfannin.org as soon as it is more complete and doesn't look awful in IE7! In fact, we are soon moving it to the txfannin server so the photos will link and we can test that feature...but it will still not be public...we'll have a new address for the secret site which I'll pass on to you. It will likely be something like txfannin.org/txfanninnew.... The site that everyone likes (currently at txfannin.org) is the precursor to the secret site BUT...on a good day...I was making 35 pages a day and it would never be finished in my lifetime. The new "secret site" is a database which builds it's own pages when someone asks for one. I just upload a spread sheet and every page for every person in a cemetery is the ready for viewing. It still takes time to get the spreadsheets ready (10 days for Gober Cemetery) but it took only 3 hours to make every burial in Willow Wild accessible once I uploaded the spreadsheet. There are about 2000 pages on the txfannin.org site and already 25,000 on the "secret site". Ladonia and Leonard are both nearly ready to post...including all the available photos. To show you how wonderful the new site will be....the Presley Infant now died after his birth and not a century earlier: http://wilson-moore.com/TXfannin/obits.php?per_id=6486 There WAS a plan for an new everyname index on the new site (hence all those non-working links in the left margin) BUT the new "site search" on the "secret site" will make the need for the every name index obsolete as the site search will build the everyname index for the site on command. This search will only find information currently ON the site and not every cemetery yet....but will actually be better than the index on the original site as it will hot link directly to the page you need. Check it out: http://wilson-moore.com/TXfannin/sitesearch.php You can search the entire site or specify what parts you would like to search. The Willow Wild Cemetery does have an office but I'm not at home to get their number for you. If there is no death record at the family search pilot site, I doubt there is a certificate on file. They were not required in Texas until 1903 (and, in Texas, we are pretty independent and take the term "required" to mean..."if you feel like it"...so lot's of times...especially in the early years... the requirement was ignored. The Manager at the Cemetery office is very helpful and willing to answer any questions you may have. If "Information" doesn't have a phone number, Joyce, drop me note next week and I'll find you a number. I THINK I replied to all the comments and questions. If not, rattle my chain again! Thanks to all of you for the wonderful feedback. Suzie

    3. I don't see that there is anything wrong. I went into the Willow Wild cemetery and I did find one name I was looking for with a death date 100 years before  the baby  was born.   Presley, Infant 27 Sep 1904 7 Nov 1804   If a person is buried in a cemetery, would they have had a funeral and would one be able to get a death record?     Is there a way or is it in the new sight already, that one can just type up a name and it will tell you what cemetery thay are in. I know the old sight had it and it was a really big help.. Keep up the good work. Joyce in Vidor TX. From: Suzie Henderson <henderson.suzie@gmail.com> Subject: [TXFANNIN] Is the new site awful? 3. Lea, Elizabeth Jane Murley was born in Dec 1831 in Hardeman Co., TN.  She is enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 censuses for Tishomingo Co., MS, the 1870 census for Tippah Co., MS, the 1880 census for Prentiss Co., MS, and finally the 1900 census for Fannin Co., TX. Both of her parents (Daniel Jefferson Murley and Nancy Angeline Savage) were born in Cumberland Co., KY. Green Berry Carter, Jr., was born in 1833 in TN but where is unknown.  It is assumed that it is Hardeman Co., TN, based on the census info below.  Based on the fact that in 1860, Green Berry Carter, Jr., was 27, that he was enumerated in the 1860 Census in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, that his last known child was born in 1861, and that Elizabeth Jane married John W. Yates in 1866, Green Berry Carter, Jr., most likely died fighting during the Civil War.  His father Green Berry Carter, Sr., was born in 1798 in NC.  He is found in Hardeman Co., TN in 1830, Tippah Co., MS, in 1840 and 1850, Tishomingo Co., MS, in 1860, and Alcorn Co., MS, in both 1870 and 1880.  No trace for him after 1880; however, a family story indicates that he lived to the ripe old age of 108.   Be glad to answer any additional questions if you have them.   Ron ________________________________ From: Lea Head <head1@skytex.net> To: TXFANNIN <TXFANNIN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 25, 2009 6:02:57 PM Subject: [TXFANNIN] Elizabeth Murley Ron......I'm very curious to know where your Eliz.
