I just learned of the meeting tonight, just before sending out the notice to you all. I won't be able to attend because I'm scheduled to be at a "Dousing for Graves" demonstration here in Fannin county... 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1 at the St. Mark Cemetery East of Dodd City... in case anyone want to attend. I will be writing up something from that demonstration for inclusion in the Fannin County Flashback. I'll drop Norman a note and ask him if he has any plans to publish a transcript or a packet of speaker's notes or the like... I happen to be in Texas, from Delaware, to attend brother-in-law's funeral. I need something to occupy my free time and this is perfect. Their children: Charlie(1900), Albert(1902), Elizabeth(1905), Alice May(1908), Gertrude(1911), and Anna Louise(1914). That pilotsearch url is a "handy-dandy" tool! It can be expanded by clicking "Advanced Search". That enables searches utilizing the names of parents. Do that and input Blanche Ford as the mother. Use the pulldown tab under "Event" to display Death/Burial. Enter Texas, United States in the "Location" then click search. View death certificates for Alice May Marks (17 Nov 1907 - 17 Apr 1911), Anna Louise Cooper (17 Dec 1913 - 7 Jul 1972), and Gertrude Stoltz (10 May 1911 - 3 Oct 1959). I'm just getting started!!! In 1900, Blanche's mother had given birth to eleven and nine were still alive. You might be living next door to cousins? Reasonably certain of my research. Gertrude was a carho! p in 1930 Galveston. She had been married approximately two years and given birth to Walter Carroll Carter Jr. That census confirms Ohio as her mother's birthplace. I did not find a family tree or any records saved by someone else. Should you be inclined, start a family tree? Oh! Patience is not one of my virtues! Please respond as promptly as possible? I try to help everyone and focus on those who respond. Time is very precious. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Lamar County Genealogy Society Meeting April 13, 2010 6:30 PM 1125 Bonham St. Paris, TX. This is located in the Santa Fe Railroad Depot building. Speaker: Jim Ainsworth Visitors Welcome Please join us for an evening of interesting stories, from a real Texas author. Mr. Ainsworth will have a few of his books with him for purchasing and signing. Texas novelist Jim Ainsworth made a covered wagon and horseback trip across Texas to retrace the journey his ancestors made two generations earlier. His book, Biscuits Across the Brazos chronicles that trip. Jim traveled the team roping circuit as an amateur and worked roundups on big ranches. Working beside real cowboys sent him back to writing. The novels in his "Follow the River" trilogy are In the Rivers Flow, Rivers Crossing and Rivers Ebb. Mr. Ainsworth was a finalist for the Violet Crown Award, from the Texas Writers League. His new book, Home Lights Burning, centers around two Confederate soldiers, their lives, their families and their home. This book was based on actual facts and events. None of the local libraries have newspapers back that far. The Sam Rayburn Library has one roll of microfilm of some isolated issues of some papers from the 1880s but they were rat chewed and missing large chunks even before they were filmed. You best bet is to check http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/search/titles/ to see what newspapers for Fannin County were are available on Microfilm for that time period and see about ordering a roll of film through interlibrary loan. You did not specify what towns your ancestors lived in or near, so I could not narrow your choices further...but you will have the option on the site. Most likely, you will find some possibilities either at the University of Texas Libraries or the Panhandle Museum in West Texas. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov is a site maintained by the Library of Congress listing what newspapers they are aware of which are available nation wide. (Always check locally yourself because the Library of Congress doesn't know everything.) Texas is one of the few states which already has some newspaper pages search able on the site... but I've already given McArthur a shot for that time period and got nothing.
