I mis-spoke in my earlier note. You have to have 900 indexing "points" but I still don't know what a point is... I get the impression is part of the problem may be the State of Texas not wanting the collection freely available... but this is only impressions on my part. I don't have any definitive information. You now have to register to log into the new fsbeta site and only get access to the Death Certificate images if you are a "Premier member" ie a member of the LDS Church or and Indexer. I guess keeping the Local Family History Center open for three years counts for nothing. It doesn't take much indexing "90 points in a quarter" but they don't seem willing to share how much you index to earn your 90 points... 90 names? 90 pages? 90 rolls of microfilm? I'll let you all know if I find out. Suzie
Thank you!! I wondered what was going on as I hadn't been able to access several images for days and days. It's been frustrating, but then I remind myself how wonderful this free service is. You have posted to the TXFannin Mailing List three times mentioning the name Stephen A. Porter... These occurred in 2002, 2005 and 2006. At no time did you ask for any help in locating death or burial information for Stephen A. Porter. In fact, most of your postings contained offers of information and not requests for information. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/txfannin/2002-11/1037061265 http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/txfannin/2005-08/1124049799 http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/txfannin/2006-01/1136837264 I still have every email sent to the TXFannin Mailing List AND to the TXFannin Website since 2007. I searched my mailbox and the only hit on mail from your address was on ONE forwarded Email JOKE. There was not one query from you posted to either the list or the TXFannin GenWeb site. The TXFannin Mailing list is monitored by some of the best and most responsive researchers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. We are sorry you are disappointed in our responsiveness, but we can not be expected to respond to questions that are not asked. Death Records in Texas were not kept until 1903 and were not well kept until some time into the 1930's. I searched the death records and did NOT find a certificate of death for ANY PORTER in Fannin County in 1905. I did not find any recorded deaths of Stephen, Steve or S. A. PORTER in all of Texas before 1910. This does not mean he didn't die here....only that it was not recorded if he did. IF he his buried in the Duplex cemetery, he is buried there unmarked. Porter's Cemetery (mentioned in your queries) is on the other end of the county from Duplex. I did not find him in any Fannin county cemetery, but assure you I will keep my eyes out for him and you will be the first to know if he turns up. You did not offer a death date for his wife, Frances. I was unable to locate any online transcription of a Rainbow Cemetery in Sommervell County. I assume she died prior to the death of Stephen, but this, too, is unclear. Here is the link to the online Texas Death Certificates in case you find it useful. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0 The earliest newspapers on file here locally begin in 1907. Search Here: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/search/titles/ to locate newspapers that were being published in the early 1900's in Fannin County. You may be able to get a microfilm through inter-library loan to find an obituary providing the information you need.
