There are several Witchers buried at Vineyard Grove, including a William J. Witcher, s/o John Henry Witcher and Barbara Ramsey. There was a wonderful web page on some Witchers from Texas. I found it by going into Google.com. I don't know whether it's still there or not. Try http:/www.texasbob.com/fam_doc15.html.

My cousin, told me a Witcher had written a book about the family. I do not know the name of it. If you live in or around Bonham let me know.
Will Witcher is buried at Moore's Chapel near where he lived by the Bonham State Park. He is my g. uncle by marriage.
Susan, Thank your very much for the information about Ragsdale. I appreciate it. Nancy
I would like to know about your Aldo Roberts. I am seeking information on A.J. ROBERTS who married my great grandmother, Victoria Sheppard, in 1874 in Lamar County. I do not know what the A.J. stands for. I did not know that he was my great grandfather until a few years ago. My grandfather, Arthur Hubert Roberts Reed was born on March 17, 1878 in Cooper, Delta County. A.J. and Victoria were divorced by the 1880 census. Victoria was born in February 1858/ Any information greatly appreciated. Phyllis Wilson Carpenter

Do you have any Pricketts, Ramseys, Yoakums or Ventioners connected with the Witchers? There are a lot of Witchers buried in Vineyard Grove Cemetery in Fannin County.
I am interested to know if you have a Ava McCandless Boswell, a George Atkins, or a Will Witcher. I do know that George Atkins is buried in Willow Wild and I would think he is buried by his mother Nena J. Rayburn.

I have a 1908 photo (in remarkably good shape) of a schoolteacher and his female students (all in their teens I believe) from Fannin County. The names on the back are Cora STINE, Ruby DOOLEY (my grandmother), Lillian ELAM, Myrtle BRADLEY, Eura GOLDEN, Nora SMITH, Dora BRADLEY, Pearle DOOLEY (my great aunt), Mr. Eli BARRETT (teacher), Annis ELAM, Jewel GOLDEN, and Della DUKE. If you know what school this is, let me know. And if you are related to any of these people and would like for me to make you a copy, I can do that for you. Jim
Ragsdale was all the way up on the river in the NE corner area: It was located where that unnamed cemetery marker is shown near Riverby It is the Richardson cemetery which is the cemetery for Ragsdale http://mediaserv.lib.utexas.edu/cgi-bin/txdot-show.pl?client=txdot&image=tcfann01.sid&levels=5&originx=3464&originy=416&lastlevel=1&fullheight=7230&fullwidth=5369&level=1&size=2&image.x=314&image.y=297 Nancy Beck wrote: > > Howard , > > Thank you for responding, the Ragsdale , TX that I am inquiring about was at > one time in Fannin County, although it may be a Ghost town today. I must admit it is a tiny, strange shaped bit of land. Guess that is why it was referred to as extreme northeast corner, and maybe the census taker couldn't find them. He and his wife raised 4 children there. He may be the one person in that strange little place I can't help but wish someone alive could tell me the WHY of it all. Thanks, that may explain why I can't find him on the 1890 census. His obit says he "died at his late residence in the extreme northeast corner of this county". He is said to have died in Dec. 1892. Maybe he was missed by the census taker or maybe he is listed on the Lamar census. Will have to check this out further. Howard , Thank you for responding, the Ragsdale , TX that I am inquiring about was at one time in Fannin County, although it may be a Ghost town today. I had assumed that it would not be too far from Bonham because a property my ancestor sold in 1880's was 8 1/2 NE of Bonham in where I think to be somewhere near the present town of Lannius. I even thought perhaps it was near the town of Henryetta in Fannin Co. Nancy
Ragsdale is on the Navidad River near the confluence of Ragsdale Creek and the Navidad River in Lavaca County. Ragsdale is about 15 miles SE of Halletsville, Texas. It may be a "ghost town". There is also a Ragsdale Lake, but I don't know where it is.
