Surnames: Hubbard, May Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.fannin/4138/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to locate any information I can on my great grandmother Laura Hubbard born Jan 1872 in Illinois. Parents are Charles and Harvilla. She was married around 1887? to David May and they had a child, Florence Edna May on Jan 6, 1888 in Bonham. I have been told that David had a heat stroke and died sometime shortly after the birth of his daughter. I found a gravestone at Oakhill cemetary with D. B. May b 1852 and d 1907 and wonder if this might be his? If so, Parents would be Joshua and Elizabeth May. Any help would be appreciated.

    3. I knew Josh May personally and will tell you what little I know. I think that Josh and Elizabeth only had a daughter, Elizabeth. The mother Elizabeth died and the daughter Elizabeth was reared by an aunt in Whitewright. Josh later married Martha, a widow whose last name escapes me at the moment but she published the Savoy Star newspaper for many years. Think that the D. B. Ray buried at Oakhill was from another May family of Whitewright fame - not sure but think he was brother to Gladys Ray who wrote several books on the area history. Elizabeth May Jones' daughter still lives in Savoy but think she has some memory problems - perhaps some of her family could help you. Her name is Betty Price, telephone 903-965-4135. I think I remember that Betty's husband, David Price, passed away. Hope this helps. And yes I would really appreciate a copy of their marriage record ! It amazes me how "mutilated" the spelling of Nunley, Nunnelee, Nunnally, Nunneley etc etc etc is found in legal records !!! Fannin Co TX was a melting pot of sorts as their are several different Nunnelee, Nunnally, Nunneley lineages who wound up there before 1900. All were related but back many generations which makes it even more difficult for the N540 researcher. Mine were the "first" in Fannin Co TX and spelled Nunnelee and are descendants of William Womack Nunnelee born 1738 Chesterfield Co VA - died 1804 Elbert Co GA who changed the surname from Nunnally to Nunnelee in the 1780's. 1. [TXFANNIN] William Cowden and Mary Clay ROBNETT SIMMONS obits
    2. List, I have a page which is from a collection on the ROBNETTs of Delta and HUNT Co along with SIMMONS who were descendants of Benjamin SIMMONS who received land grants on the North Sulphur River in Delta lCo. The problem is the page has been copied so many times that many words cannot be read. I am hoping that some of you of the SIMMONS-ROBNETT family have a better copy. The page is the obituary for William Cowden SIMMONS b 1840 in Green Co, MO and died in Yowell, Hunt Co, March 7, 1916, and his wife Mary Clay ROBNETT SIMMONS, d Sunday, May 19, 1918. It is obvious that the two are clippings from newspapers and were placed side by side to be copied. Both are signed by a "W. E. Mangum". The obits are very personal as he knew them well. The only clue as to where the obits may have been published comes in the statement: "Mr. Simmons was a charter member of our R. E. Lee Camp No. 231 U. C. V's Commerce, Texas." I have tried locating the obits at Greenville's library but there are no newspapers on microfilm for those dates. Are there any surviving records from the Lee Camp U. C. V's that might include the same obituary? Have any of you seen other obits by W. E. Mangum? Do any of you have clear copies that can be read?
