He probably died about 1876-1877 in Fannin County. My first guess would be around Honey Grove, as that is where his two sons were born in 1871 and 1876. It is likely that the grave isn't marked. My second thought is around Paris, as that is where his widow remarried in 1877. This is a Great-Great-Grandfather. Would the cemeteries in those two areas have cemetery books that recorded all burials whether there was a gravestone or not? Would it be possible to write to them? My aunt and I found my great-grandfather's grave and place a marker on it, at another location by using the cemetery book, but of course it was a much later date. Any information would be very helpful. 3. That's funny. The Ancestry viewer drives me crazy! I'd rather use the index, find the microfilm reference and then go to Heritage Quest to see the census image. I just find their viewer really awkward to work with. The only problem I have with footnote is the time it takes to open the viewer. I would be very frustrated on a dial up. I would never have subscribed if I was still on dial up. On 9/14/07, Carol Cantrell <[email protected]> wrote: > > Thank you Suzie. 3. Suzie, I'm wondering if you've come up with an easy way to save a file on footnote that has several pages to it. I am getting the CSA records for all my folks and some are as many as 12-14 pages. I can right click the initial image for a page and save it as a bmp or I can email it to myself as a smaller jpg file. However page by page is awfully time consuming and footnote doesn't really have any Help section. So I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something obvious. Thanks for your help past and present. 3. Yes, Carol. You are overlooking the obvious! If you are a paid member, you can click on download and the page will magically appear already named in your downloads folder [or desktop...wherever you've told it] You may have to download each page? I'm not sure but it is very quick. The other thing you can do is save it to your gallery. You only need to save one of the pages to your gallery as they are all linked together and will appear in the view as a "team" even if only one of the pages is in your gallery. They won't take up space on your hardrive that way. If you are downloading them to print, they print just fine from Footnote without a download. Feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any trouble. 3. He's not listed in the interment records for Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove which is the largest one. I am walking and indexing that cemetery now. I have only one of the older sections left to complete and I have not found a stone for him. Do you think there might have been a probate of a will or property when he died? That might give you a death date. Suzie On 9/14/07, Reba Schafer <[email protected]> wrote: > > Looking for grave of James Strahan (this could be spelled a number of > different ways). He is my Charles ,have his birth date from family bible records. 1920 census shows him and his wife on Jan 9, enumerated in a hotel in OK , and Jan 19, shows his wife with her daughter and son in law in Honey Grove listed as widow. This is what made me think perhaps he had died 1920. I have looked for a death certificate for TX but not found one. 3. Esther, I am Suzie Henderson the "official" Oakwood Cemetery walker and indexer! I'm nearly done and then it will be posted. I have already recorded the stone of C. R. LINDSEY. It reads: LINDSEY, C. R. 18 Apr 1856 9 Jan 1921 The interment record kept by the Cemetery Association has that same date recorded. I have found a couple of instances where the stone and reality did not match..but that's how the stone reads. Photos will be posted with the transcription.
