He married 30, 1855 at Blue Ridge in Falls County, Texas on September 30, 1855 to Elizabeth Smiley Forbes, b July 25, 1828 in Tennessee, d November 5, 1911 at Little Rock, Bell County, Texasa daughter of Reverend John R. Forbesa Cumberland Presbyterian Minister, b September 4, 1798, d June 15, 1872 in Bell County, and his wife, Hannah Down(Ashmore) Forbes, who died before 1850. Reverend John R. Forbes was a brother to Dr. Robert C. Forbes, who also settled in Falls County. Charles Thomas Barclay was listed in the Muster Rolls of the Early Texas Mounted Rangers. He served in the 1846-1848 Mexican-U. S. War, and later received a pension for this service. He was a Masontransferring his membership from the Masonic Lodge in Springfield, Limestone County, Texas to the Marlin Masonic Lodge, #152, which was organized in 1854. In 1870, he was a Justice of the Peace in Falls County. Charles Thomas and Elizabeth Smiley(Forbes) Barclay had four children: Samuel Fletcher Barclay, b July 1, 1856, d March 7, 1932married Annie Eliza Jonesa daughter of Hastings and Mary(Hanna) Jones. Lida Vardeman Barclay, b November 9, 1857, d February 23, 1934 at Cameron, Milam County, Texasmarried William Jeter and had Beth Jeter, Lilly Mae Jeter, Mable Jeter, and Thomas Jeter. Mary Frances Barclay, b October 18, 1859, d Febrary 13, 1904, no futher information. Margaret Barclay, b June 16, 1861, d August 6, 1896married Judson Gibson. Margaret taught school at Reagan and Blue Ridge.
