Davis was elected Falls County Tax Assessor in 1860. Family members record that Davis married first in late 1860 or early 1861 to Margaret Garrett (?), and had one daughter, Margaret, when his wife died. He married second on September 26, 1864 to Mary Cecelia Stewart, b September 31,1841 in Montgomery County, Texas, d August 5, 1910 and both buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery in present-day Blue Ridge, Falls County, Texas — a daughter of Dr. Charles B. Stewart, Civil Officer, member of the Constitution Committee and the second signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, b ca 1810 in South Carolina, and his first wife, Julia T. (Sheppard) Stew art, whose mother, Mary S. was born ca 1788 in Virginia and was a widow of Thomas Sheppard by 1850. Davis Menefee and Mary Cecelia (Stewart) Barclay had three children: Arthur Othello Barclay who married Clara Meyer, and had Mary Barclay, Samuel Barclay, Laura Barclay, and Charles Stewart Barclay, and moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Ora Lee Barclay— no further information. David Barclay, — no further information. Davis Menefee Barclay was a Mason, as was his father and two of his brothers.
