Hillary’s father had a disabling stroke while Hillary was a student at Baylor University, and he took over the management of the family land — converting the family enterprise from large cotton acreage to the cattle industry. He and Mr. Ed McIntosh, of Marlin, introduced the “stocker” cattle business to Falls County— an industry which resulted in the county’s becomeing one of the largest in the “stocker” cattle business in the State. Hillary served in the Army Air Corps during World War II — enlisting in 1942, and returning to Marlin after the war, to resume his “stocker” cattle enterprise. On August 8, 1947, Hillary was married to Joni Dell Barnett, b September 9,1922 in Marlin — a daughter of Dr. John Houston and Dell Ann (Davidson) Barnett. Joni Dell received her B. S. degree in Medical Technology from The University of Colorado The four children of Hillary H. and Joni Dell (Barnett) Barganier — all born in Marlin, Falls County, Texas — were: Sally Davidson Barganier, b May 19, 1948—is not married. Sally received her B. A. degree in History from Baylor University, Waco; and her M. L. A. degree from Southern Methodist University, Dallas. Craig Hillary Barganier, b June 8, 1950, d March 29, 1981 in an automobile accident, and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. He attended West Texas State University, Canyon, and then retuned to Falls County where he followed in his father’s footsteps in the cattle business, and managing the family lands after his father had a disabling stroke. Craig married Brenda Young — a daughter of Dr. Brian Byron and Dorothy Jane (Corbett) Young, of Marlin; and they had two children: Lisa Jane Barganier, b October 20, 1972; and Ryan Hillary Barganier, b June 20, 1977. Jennie Barganier, b September 8, 1954 — is a graduate of The University of Texas, receiving her degree in Education and Latin. She is not married. Joan Davison Barganier (called “Joni”), b Novem-ber 22, 1962 — is not married, and is now a student at Baylor University, Waco. Joni Dell (Barnett) Barganier continues to reside in Marlin, Texas, where she is very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin, and in other civic and community affairs.
