This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0hB.2ACE/1521 Message Board Post: Hi everybody, I've just learned that Ancestry.com will soon be selling subscriptions to the Family Tree database. Some of you have contributed trees to the Ancestry site in hopes it will further the cause of free family research. By June, that will no longer be the case. I sent the following message to my lists today. If you have a tree on the Ancestry site, you may want to consider your options. It's a bit disheartening, but not unexpected. If you have submitted a family tree to Ancestry.com, you should know of the change about to be implemented by them. The Family Trees that have been donated to Ancestry for free distribution to other researchers are about to be sold by subscription: the OneWorldTree Preview cost will be $49.95 for 14 months. If you'd prefer that your information was not sold, there is a link below which will take you to a set of instructions on opting out by deleting your tree. After clicking on the link and arriving at the page, click on "What's a preview?" near the top of the page. Read thoroughly and then click on "View our checklist" (which appears on #3). Among other things, you will see the following sentence: "If for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of the new OneWorldTree service, you must delete it from the Ancestry World Tree database by tentatively May 21, 2004." Does that include trees at Rootsweb? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Kmcunningham3@aol.com> To: <TXFALLS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 11:33 AM Subject: [TXFALLS] Ancestry.com selling your Family Data > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0hB.2ACE/1521 > > Message Board Post: > > Hi everybody, > I've just learned that Ancestry.com will soon be selling subscriptions to the Family Tree database.
