Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0hB.2ACE/1520.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for responding. However, there are several different groups of Garretts in Falls and McLennan Counties. My grandfather, Robert Ephriam Garrett had a sister named Nora He had other siblings, but we cannot find them, either. His family settled and lived in and around Durango, Belfalls, Lott, Rosebud, etc. I don't recognize any of the names you mentioned. Thanks again.

    2. Below is a response to the message I posted yesterday about Ancestry's One World Tree. The way I read and understood the information page was what I posted yesterday. If I was incorrect my apologies. It still dones not change my views on 'pay for' sites though. Let's set the record straight,  Family Trees you submit to RootsWeb's WorldConnect and/or Ancestry World Tree continue to be free for anyone to access and search just as they always have been.  NOTHING has changed as to your use of WorldConnect/AWT's combined database. The new program that has recently come along is One World Tree (OWT), which is a new advanced subscription search feature  ( it's a tool) that matches data found in the free trees and some of the pay databases and census records found at Ancestry, and stitches it into a finished product to cut out the work of searching and matching data for the subscriber.  What the subscriber to OWT is paying for is the convenience of having the searching and matching done for him....not for accessing or searching the free family trees housed on their site. 3. Kay, Thanks for posting that letter clarifying Ancestry.com's new program. The service Ms Gormley describes sounds like a very valuable one. However, this makes it even more important that we post correct information when we do a family tree on the site. I have the first one I put on there that has some very bad errors. I have not been able to remove it because I can't remember my password for the first one. I apologize to anyone who has copied those errors. Does anyone know of a way to remove them without the password? I would like to remove the incorrect one and post an updated version so others can have access to it. Jody Dillard

    3. This is very interesting. What about the family trees on World Connect at Rootsweb.com. Does Ancestry claim ownership to those as well? They claim this information would not be sold and that we have total control over our data. Their MyFamily.com websites used to be free, but when they began charging for this service, I cancelled all my accounts with them. I refuse to subscribe to Ancestry.com. A lot of the information they charge for can be found elsewhere on the internet for free including census records. Vanessa Message Board Post: Hi everybody, I've just learned that Ancestry.com will soon be selling subscriptions to the Family Tree database. Some of you have contributed trees to the Ancestry site in hopes it will further the cause of free family research. By June, that will no longer be the case. I sent the following message to my lists today. If you have a tree on the Ancestry site, you may want to consider your options. It's a bit disheartening, but not unexpected. If you have submitted a family tree to Ancestry.com, you should know of the change about to be implemented by them. The Family Trees that have been donated to Ancestry for free distribution to other researchers are about to be sold by subscription: the OneWorldTree Preview cost will be $49.95 for 14 months. If you'd prefer that your information was not sold, there is a link below which will take you to a set of instructions on opting out by deleting your tree. After clicking on the link and arriving at the page, click on "What's a preview?" near the top of the page. Read thoroughly and then click on "View our checklist" (which appears on #3). Among other things, you will see the following sentence: "If for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of the new OneWorldTree service, you must delete it from the Ancestry World Tree database by tentatively May 21, 2004." Durbin (he may have gone by L.D. Durbin). According to the 1920 census for Falls County he was married with a wife named Donia and a step daughter, Deva Baker, lived with them. By 1930 Census of Falls County he is married to Carrie Weelin and has a son named leonard who is 11 months old. A great aunt told me that Leonard was married to a Jackson, is this Donia's maiden name or was he possibly married before? I also have been told that possibly Leonard had a sister named Edna and she married a jackson and they had a son. He had red hair and his name may have been Clarence. Any help would be greatly apprecciated. thanks.
