I just responded to a message posted by Ann about Barkers in Falls and Milam Counties with the following message: My grandmother was Mattie Lee Barker, born in Rosebud, Texas May 30, 1894. Her parents were Charles Henry Barker, born about 1865, and Lucy Whitehurst, born about 1874. Their children, aside from my grandmother, were Jessie (May 1892); Sister (April 1893); Pete (August 1895); Dan (June 1897); and Sally (December 1899). I know the family lived in Milam County for some period of time but don't know dates. My grandmother moved to New Mexico where she met and married my grandfather. They both died in New Mexico, she in 1977 and he in 1949. I don't have much more information that that about the Barker family. Please let me know if you see any possible connection. Posted on: Falls County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Falls/619 Surname: Bozeman, Capers, Duncan, Fleming, Tyson ------------------------- My GGmother Margaret FLEMING was a midwife in the Cedar Springs area of Falls County in the years before 1947. I don't know if people called her Grannie or what but I know she was active in the community surrounding Rosebud. My grandmother told me that she watched, and sometimes helped, her mother deliver babies, nurse people through serious illness, intervene for families after the suicide of their family members, and prepare bodies for burial. I would appreciate if folks would ask their elders in that region, or who lived in that area in the first half of the 20th century, if they have any recollections of midwife Maggie FLEMING. I live in Washington state but will be in San Antonio from Dec 14-30. I'd love to talk. Thanks in advance for your help.
