reply to Paula Masters - you can look Rosebud and Falls County Texas up on the internet at Mapquest.com
This message is in reply to the following rootsweb e-mail. I used to live in Missouri City, Texas. When I lived there in the 1960s and "70s Blue Ridge Rd was actually a state road that ran south out onto a cattle ranching and oil field area. There was also a salt mine out there. This area was known as the Blue Ridge. Using GO Express Search, I also found a reference to BLUE RIDGE, TEXAS BLUE RIDGE, TEXAS (Collin County). Blue Ridge is at the intersection of State Highway 78 and Farm Road 981, in northeastern Collin County. The town is on land originally owned by Matthiss Mowry, who received a land grant from the Republic of Texasqv for his service in the Texas Revolution.qv Blue Ridge was established in 1876 {this is an excerpt from the Handbook of Texas, on-line} Hope this helps Paula locate the burial place of her Falls County "David Busby." I had written to ask if you couldlook up the Busby surname in Falls Co, TX. There was another Busbyfamily in Falls County about the same time and I have not been able tofind a connection. My Busby line would have been a Milton or a David T?Busby. I know that David was in Falls county around 1850. He bought landin the Sarah Pillow Survey(whatever that was), and he was married to aSarah Gray Seeley; she was the widow of Dr. David Seeley when shemarried David Busby. It is said David died around Blue Ridge; I guessthat was some kind of community, but I have never been able to find outanything about when or where he died or where he is buried.Anything you can find on this family would be so very much appreciated! Thanks for your generous help,Paula Dunklin
Dear List Members, Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. If you do not receive any postings during this time do not worry, all will be back up and running soon. Your List Mom is going to take a 24 hours nap. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Your post interests me even though I am not related to Williams. The reason is that my ancestors came from Mississippi to Falls County and also served with Bedford Forrest. It makes sense to me that my Glass ancestors would enjoy pioneering in Texas close to fellow southern patriots who served in the same outfit. My Glass relatives served in the 1st Mississippi Cavalry in Company G. Looking at the roster I see Hampton Williams, Second Lieutehant, Henry William, J.C. Williams, and John Williams. Are they your kinfolk? I also have an account of the activities of the regiment. Rosebud is located on hwy 77 between Cameron to the south and Lott to the north. Lott's even smaller than Rosebud, so next town north would be Waco. Don't have a clue to the precinct.
