Hello to researchers, I know this is Erath County pages- Erath County records were kept in Waco- McLennan County tax office for a year or so. and many south of Stephenville had marriage records in the Meridian, Bosque County Courthouse, including my Great Grandad Robert Augustine Wyly of Selden and some of his siblinbgs. John B. Erath, Stephenville surveyor, had a home in Waco when he wasn't surveying or fighting Indians with Texas Rangers. TODAY'S WACO TRIBUNE HERALD front page tells of an unmarked pioneer small frontier cemetery which is being moved so the Conally Independent School District, Don Hancock, Supt. can buy it for a new campus. (north of Waco on old Chisolm Trail & I-35) South of West, Texas and east of Steinbeck Bend of the Brazos and Bosque rivers. . Field stone headstones have no names- apparently 12 graves, more or less. A Killeen Archeology contractor is sending all remains to Austin to determine race, sex, age and health of corpses that are found. WHO ARE THEY? can the DNA be tested of partially decomposed bodies in wood coffins and could someone with missing ancestors have theirs checked for a match? There were no fences separating white from black burials in Hill County 30 years ago, such as jasper had. Waco once had one by Fort Fisher, but it was cleaned and removes a few years ago. Separate cemeteries were either paupers buried by the county or executed or lynched criminals of the same race as the other cemeteries. Thought you might want to know and post.
