Hi, Sandra Seems your name is familiar for some reason. I taught at West then Midway as vocational money shifted and retired in Waco. I have 2 degrees from NTST or U of NT in Denton, heavy in history and have lived over 1/3 of the time Texas has been a state. I think we fail to realize our great grandparents here still had outlaw and Renegade Indian problems. Everyone wh carried a bow and arrow or wore feathers wasn't necessarioy indians. Like back in Georgia this was a way to place blame on innocents, sometimes, hoping it would agitate removal of all Indians, peaceful or not. Now, if someone had an Indian mother or grandmother like Jesse James, he didn't brag about it back then, or he might have also been removed. I live in Hewitt, near Hewitt Drive and Midway High. Dad's first cousin Mineola Wyly Fulbright lives in Bellmead and her sister Ann Wyly Standifer lives in Waco. I just sold 90 acres- the remainder of Grandad's farm in Selden. he had 400 plus acres of former Hatchett land. The fire ants, killer bees, snakes, and heat and dairy smell is not the home country I grew up in. We used to live with nature- now they battle, and 70 is a little late to start that type of life By the way, seen any stray ostriches or Emus or Feral hogs lately? I have noticed reports from Gholson & China Spring. The Brazos is a playground for them, not a barrier. . I really think if we get as hungry as some did in the 30's we will start eating the Emus, not dumping them on our neighbors. Raleigh Carter, with a beard almost to his belt, lived near Grandad at Selden. His children were Clyde and Glatys. Some more Carters lived in the Pony Creek and Chalk Mountain and cedar point area. Maybeline was my age. These carters were farmers and did custom hay bailing and mowing. Will check some more. Take care, Charles Wyly
