    1. [ERATH] Terminology of a 'Longhunter'
    2. Found this on another list - Very Interesting! The first of May, 1769, Daniel Boone, John Findley, John Stewart and three others hunted through upper East TN. Then on 2nd. of June 1769 a larger company of hunters including John Rains, Kasper Mansco, Abraham Bledsoe, John Baker, Joseph Drake, Obediah Terrell, Uriah Stone, Henry Smith, Ned Cowan, and Robert Crockett hunted and explored Middle TN. These pioneer hunters returned to their homes after nine months. In 1770 their friends and neighbors were enraptured by their tales, so about forty other hunters journeyed to the New, Holston and Clinch River areas to hunt and trap. They were led by Colonel James Knox and were equipped with thier rifles, traps, dogs, and blankets. After staying for many months they returned home and ever after were known as the "Long Hunters". They were called "Long Hunters" for being gone from home such a long time and traveling very long distances. Daniel Boone usally hunted for periods of up to two years.
