Now , back to Mary Jane Buffington, a Princess in the Cherokee Natoin of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. with Georgia Indian and Anglo roots- taken from a chart sent me by Sidney McNair , Tahlequah, Ok. and drawn by his brother in Fort Worth, Robert Fletcher Wyly#2. robert F. was the son of William Clark Wyly of Tyler, Texas, a Capt. in Confederate Army, and Georgia born, the great grandson of Col.& Gov. John Sevier of TennesseeHis first wife was Mary Williams. Their children were Oliver Cromwell (Bud) Wyly and Florence. Robert F. and Mary Jane Buffington married in Mayseville, Arkansas, Cherokee nationat one time. Mary Jane Buffington, his second wife was born1840'sto Joshua Buffington and Saber Lynch who married 1830. Children of Robert F. and Mary Jane , Percy, Robert Lee, Julia, Capitola, Albert Sidney, Marmaduke, and Zoe Aster. Percy was the Regional FBI supervisor under J. Edgar Hoover who supervised the integration of Mississippi and was chief of security of Albequerque schools and Sandia Corp. until death. His son is an attorney there now. Cora McNair was born to Dr. Felix Hurd McNair and Nannie Sarah Bushy. Her father was Jesse Bushyhead, about 1/2 Cherokee, a Baptist who was arrested and put in Camp Hetzel , Georgia for removal to the Indian territory when cold weather approached. During the warm months in prison he and Cousin John Foreman became ministers, cut pole bleachers, and held daily Bible studies. Their Anglo guards were not as interested in the Bible as they were. Jesse's mom was Eliza Wilkerson. His dad was OO-OO-Du-tu, Cherokee for Bushyhead. His wife was Nannie Foreman His dad was Capt. John Stuart of Rev. War and married Susannah Emory, . She was 1/4 Cheroke , a Divine of unusual Spiritualability (A beloved Woman, like Nancy Ward of Echota, blue Peace City of Refuge in Georgia??0) Her first husband was Richard Fields and there was a third. Now back to Mary Jane- Joshua was the son of Thomas Buffington and Mary Emory, who was also the sister to Susannah Emory who married Gen. Joseph Martin , Indian Agent. Will get back to him. Mary daniel wasthe daughter of Marmaduke Daniel and Nannie Still, half Cherokee. Sabra Lynch was the dau. of Jeter Lynch and Nannie Martin, married 1799. Nannie's mom was Susannah Emory wife of Gen Joseph Martin, above. According to the Trail of Tears book and Cherokee Sunset books, Gen. Martin had 2 Anglo wives, oneSusannah Geaves, the sister of Col. Ben Cleveland's wife Mary, who I am descended from.Col. Ben fought 50 Indian and British Battles in 1770-90's and never lost one, but the one when eh and Daniel Boone were bear hunting near Cumberland Gap without dogs for Indians to smell and hear. Some Indians jumpped them and took their clothes and shoes and let them walk home alone. I call that a draw- they lived. Gen Martin also had 3 Cherokee Wives. He told one of his Anglo wives he would be killed by a hothead native without family ties to them. One was Nancy Ward's daughter. Nancy's first husband was Mankiller Gen Martin was also the son in law of Jesse Walton who left the Traveller's Rest Inn unfinished for the Georgia Gold Fields. Gen. Martin sold the property to my ancestor Ga. Militia General James Rutherford Wyly, about 1812, and Wylys sold it to the Lucas and Jarrett families about 1850. The Georgia Dept of Natural Resources runs it now as a museum park They sella book called Traveller's Rest & Tugaloo Crossroads" or get it at your library. Gen Martin's parents were Joseph Martin and Susannah Childs. Some Texas Darnells are descended from Jesse Bushyhead . Hope I have all Martins correct- I checked 3 sources. Take care, Charles Wyly William Buffington Wyly married Cora McNair in 1901 and they had Lucien, R.F. and Sid.
