    3. Hi, Don't know the connection, but the Mary laneys caught my attention. In 1952 , when I returned from the Army, I used toattend parties in Chalk Mountain. Since I was known to everyone I and Bill Riggs were appointed chaperones for a hayride trip, Mary and Claudia Laneys were teenagers and were all State basketball players at Stephenville High School, which won State that year. Mary and Claudia were grandchildren of Ben and Ruth Laney, mom's friends. One of their sons, Jiggs Laney and wife, an Edwards, lived in Skipper's Gap on U.S.67, not far west of the Maratheal's Gap (Greasy) School. They adopted 2 children. If they were still trying to follow the Scottish- Anglo European of picking names, then the Mary above may be a granddaughter or great granddaughter of the Mary you listed. Let me know if you do not have the naming pattern based on older kin. Also, The National Indian records are kept in a Federal library in Fort Worth, Texas. I ran the Cherokee Rolls in the Waco city library and found some of my kin in Arkansas in 1900 with 1/64/or less blood. One Wyly married Mary Jane Buffington , aGeorgia born princess descended from several generations of mixed blood. One was on Tahlequah Tribal Council and ran Cherokee orphanage in 1900. His grandson is on the net with Wyly- Connor Real Estate in Tahlequah. Anyone in Arkansas , Missouri, and East Oklahoma before 1900 either had Cherokee blood or kin who had married Cherokee and they knew who would sell them land. Many in Erath County had various Indian blood but were not about to talk to strangers about it as long as John R. Baylor and his semi official- semi vigilante Central Texas Rangers were "purging" the Palo Pinto- Erath Caddo and other peaceful Indian Farmers. He closed their farms, sent them to Fort Phantom Hill, then informed the U.S.Army commander there that his Rangers outnumberred his troops and if he did not ship all Indians to Oklahoma they would kill him , his troops, and the Indians. Mr. Baylor was next the first Governor of the State of Arizona. Rev. R.E.B. Baylor who started Baylor University in 1845 was 25 years or more ahead of John R. Baylor, whom Col. Buck Barry, Texas Ranger, had commissioned part time to lead posses seeking killers. The Caddo were friendly and kept Comanches out of Erath County for many years before the civil War.
