    3. ---------- From: Lee and Lauri Haines [SMTP:fairway1@texas.net] Sent: Monday, October 26, 1998 5:38 PM To: 'TXERATH-L-request@rootsweb.com'; 'wyly1@juno.com' Subject: GRACIE JORDAN Hi, My husband and I desperately need help with 3 things: 1. proof that "Gracie Kimona Jordan" was born in Morgan Mill, Erath Co, TX 3 Sept 1916 2. the correct spelling of her parents' names: we believe them to be WILLIAM AARON JORDAN and LULA BELL CARAWAY JORDAN 3. the correct spelling of Gracie's name, i.e., is it "Gracie Kamonia" or "Grace Kimona?" Grace is my husband's mother and she is living in a nursing home near us in Boerne, suffering from Alzheimer's as well as a broken hip. She is the 9th and last child born to William Aaron and Lula Bell Jordan. William Aaron's parents were WILLIAM HENRY JORDAN and LOUISA C. HIGHTOWER. We went up to Austin to the Bureau of Vital Statistics hoping to get copies of her birth certificate. There is no such document. Instead, there is a "memorandum" apparently submitted by the doctor recording the birth of an infant - no sex or name specified - on 3 Sept 1916 and the names of the parents are misspelled: the doctor put down "Jourdan" for "Jordan" and "Lucy" for "Lula Bell". The State is requiring that we submit other proof of her birth and existence, plus other documents providing the correct way to spell her parents' names. Can anyone help us? Are there census documents? Early school records? Birth records of any of the other 8 children, all of whom were born in Morgan Mill, Erath Co., showing the correct spelling of the parents' names? The other 8 kids were: 1. Cecil Aaron 5-10-1900 2. Lucy Velona 13-7-1902 3. Bessie May 13-7-1904 4. Bobie Day 5-9-1905 5. Mary Alcie 19-9-1907 6. Nellis Lee "Gayle" 6-5-1909 7. George W. Ray 16-4-1912 8. Ruby Leato 1-6-1914 We were given to understand that the HIGHTOWER and JORDAN families were well-known and heavily involved in establishing Morgan Mill. Someone suggested that if we could find any "old-timers" that would know of the family, perhaps they could verify her existence through an affadavit. We would appreciate any help and/or information so we can help Grace. She needs Texas state aid but without proof of her birth, they are balking. She has been a TX resident all of her 82 years but we are unable to prove it. We appreciate your time, and your knowledge, and would be grateful for any help you could give. Sincerely, Lauri Haines Fairway1@texas.net
