Guess you know thwt Mont Thomas was Erath County sheriff for many years and his chief deputy was "Blackie" Martin. - 1940's 50's, or possibly earlier. Also a "Buck" Thomas of Peoria, Hill County, Texas was a farmer. He was cleaning trash from his power takeoff corn stripper, power takeoff running, and his arm got caught in the stripper, A lump of stalks clogged the stripper and killed the tractor motor with his arm caught and badly mangled. He took out his pocket knife and finished amputating it just below the shoulder, and was walking away for help when found. Buck became Hill County- Hillsboro District Clerk and served until he died a natural death, I think. May have retired a year or so. I attend church with a Frank Thomas in Hewitt, Texas who is a University of North Texas , Denton, Graduate and was a Chevrolet dealer in Duvall County or nearby. There are two colums of Thomas families in the Waco phone book. I was on the road in sales work a year or so and made connection with close cousins of my Grandmother Nancy Hipp Carey of Erath County, Texas in South Carolina and Texas by calling blind in the phone books. Seema all South Carolina Hipp families were connected through 3 brothers from Manheim, Germany before 1760 or thereabouts. Have also found a few of the 400 plus Wyly families this way at night in Motels. Sure beats more TV and sometimes a more exciting story than TV is coming up with lately.
