    3. I think Mr. Hailey cut my hair a few times at Hico. Hugh Heering married Connie (Ripley?) They lived next farm over at Johnsville in 1939- 1940,s. She taught atr Selden and they were very active in Stephenville Foster Home and other Church of Christ activities. They retired in Stephenville selling Real Estates. She was a member of the bandage rollers and quilters who met in Selden Auditorium building in WW2 and I have her name on a quilt they made, He raised peanuts on Great Aunt Susie Moxley's farm on Hico Hiway. EDWARDS- here's a few- connection, if any, not known. Dewey Edwards was Superintendent at Walnut Springs and halpped me considerably. His son Donnie succeeded him. His mom or Grandmom was a Derrick of Selden- Clairette- Stephenville area. EVANGELIST EDWARDS- or Evan Eddards, killed by Indians, 1796, Cumberland Gap. he had married Jemima Cleveland Wyly after James Wyly left her with two Wyly Kids. Col Ben Cleveland of North Carolina Militia and REv. War had some land in Tennessee or Kentucky and they had lived there a year or so. A hunting party was ahead and the Indians attacked, killing and scalping Mr. Edwards and injuring others before the hunting party rescued them J.R. Wyly, age 12 or so, jumpped through bushes into a stream and hid under the bank. Elizabeth Wyly grabbed two Edwards children and hid them in a bush. Jemima then took 3 Edwards children to some of Col. Ben;s land in Clinton , East Felicians Parish, La. I wrote Mattie Roberts Somerville of La.- a Wyly grandchild and geneaologist if this was the family of Gov. Edwards of La. who flew into Stephenville in a private plabe while governor and paid for a ranch with cash from a brief case. She died in 1988 Ice storm of diabetes and heart before she answerred- but she sent me a few pages of Wyly, Cleveland, and Edwards history from Clinton La, court records, when Gen. J.R. Wyly and cousin Gen Ben Cleveland, both of Ga. Militia, and John Cleveland all testified as to family claims and reclaimed the La. land from Daniel Cleveland for Col. Ben's estate and the Edwards children. I am a descendant of SARAH HAWKINS CLARK- A DAU. OF Maj Clark and Elizabeth Sevier who died when Sarah was 7. She told her children and grandchildren in Ga, when she lived with some Wylys who came to Selden and Stephenville that her grandad John Sevier raised her in Sevierville and Knoxville. she was married to James Rutherford Wyly there and they built Inns up and down Tugaloo Turnpike from Tennessee to Toccoa, Ga. where coaches from Charleston and Atlanta crossed hw bought Walton land from cousin Gen Joseph Martin and sold the Traveller's Rest Inn to the Lucas- Jarrett families. It is over 150 years old and is a Georgia State park on the internet- Tales told there to Sarah Clark by her grandad Gen. Sevier then to her grandkids ended up in Erath County. Wish I had listened closer as a child. Their son married an Eddins and a Mitchell descended from Yowell families and Co. Von Moller (Moulder) If any of this rings a bell, I can send some dates & more info. Careful- if you do geneaology long enough you may meet yourself going the other way. Charles Wyly Janice Ranee Clark a geneaologist from Houston and Crockett is descended from a different line of Clarks AND a Wyly and a Hatchett from Selden On Sun, 9 Aug 1998 21:00:18 -0700 "Judi Clark" <jaclark@cts.com> writes: >Mr. Wyly, > >I certainly am enjoying all of the interesting stories you have been >sharing with >all of us.
