    3. Hi, Sandy, Some of th Ross family ran a service station in Hico , Texas at the intersection of Hwy 67 and U.S.281, catty cornerred across from the Koffe Kup Kafe for many years. The Koffe Kup Kafe has many old pictures of Early Hico on its walls. Crockett Ross was killed at a Stephenville service station near Tarleton. He was shot by a teenage Robert Bagwell who was robbing the service station Mr. Ross was in charge of. Dan White, Robert's Uncle, was sittting in the get away car outside- 1940's or 50. Robert got life in prison and his Uncle, who had raised him for a time, got the Electric chair. Before he died, he was converted by a Selden pastor doing Jail services. He was baptized in Stephenville First Baptist Church baptistry and Selden Church accepted him as a member based on his profession of faith. He made no more appeals before execution. If you tie to Sull Ross, Texas Ranger officer from Waco who found Cynthia Ann Parker, Quannah Parker's mom in The Wichita Falls area on the White River. he must have been lost at the time, as he said in one report they made a forced ride 6 days north of Albequerque, N.M. in original Republic of Texas on the White River (Wyoming???) The White River near Wichita Falls is not north of Albequerque, New Mexico, but east. Maybe they were north of Albequerque when they started??. Sull Ross later became President of Baylor University and later Texas A&M. University. Several streets and buildings in Waco are named for him or his family. I think the Texas A&M Honor Guard crack drill team is named the Sull Ross Rifles. For Ross history in Waco look in Geneaology Department of Waco- McLennan County (Which once included Erath County land records), McLennan County Courthouse, the Texas Collection of Baylor University (not the main Library- a separate library), the Texas Ranger Hall of fame and library off Hwy 35 at the Brazos, and the Texas A&M Library.
