    3. >From the History of Erath County, compiled by the Erath County Historical Society in 1890: Aaron Hardin "H" Allard. Aaron Hardin "H" Allard born February 22, 1837, in Missouri, son of Aaron Hardin and Polly Weaver Allard, who in early 1840's moved to Hopkins County, Texas. In 1856 H Allard came to Erath County about the time the County was organized, met and married Sarah Ann Colbert. They bought 262-1/2 acres in Johnsville Community from the State of Texas at $1.00 per acre, raised cattle and farmed while Indians in this area were a constant threat to family and property. Indians often took his stock, rode around the house hollering, etc. H, a Texas Ranger, was gone from home often; was wounded in the hand by and Indian arrow at the battle of Dove Creek in Tom Green County. The white men were outnumbered and suffered great hardship, lost the battle, were forced to retreat. Mr. Allard sold the farm, bought another in the Rocky Point Community. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge in Stephenville, and Pony Creek Baptist Church H Allard died February 28, 1891 of measles; is buried in the Allard Cemetery 5 miles east of Stephenville, which he had donated to the county previously. Sarah Allard who died December 28, 1909 is buried there. H and Sarah Allard had nine children: Mary Eliza - married James (Buck) Perry; Frances Jane - married Daniel Cox; George - died age 5; Ada Ann - married Ben F Compton; James H - died age 2; Rosa Lee - married Will C Savage; Walter - married Mary Langdon; Ira Aaron - married Lura Langdon, all born in Johnsville Community. Ira Aaron, called Dutch, was born April 29, 1877, died January 1, 1957. February 4, 1903, Dutch married Lura Langdon, daughter of Welcome and Margaret Ross Langdon and niece of Fielding Ross, who was sheriff of Erath County in the 1870's. In 1906 Dutch Allard had a hardware and grocery store in Bluff Dale, moved back to Stephenville in 1910, became partner in B F Compton Hardware, presently Nix Hardware site. January 3, 1904 Virtie Odessa Allard was born to Dutch and Lura Allard; and Virgil Ray Allard, born September 25, 1905; died November 23, 1963. Virtie Allard graduated from Stephenville High School in 1922, the first class to graduate from what is now the Middle School, graduated from Tarleton 1924, taught in Briscoe County school, there married D G Joiner June 22, 1927. He died June 24, 1955. The Joiner's daughter Virtie Verlyn whose history appears also in this book was born April 12, 1932 in Silverton Texas, is married to D C "Donnie" Walker. Joiners moved to Stephenville in 1938 and to Fort Worth in 1940. September 23, 1961 Virtie Allard Joiner married A H Dudley, who is also a native of Erath County and has numerous Bostick and Dudley relatives here; in 1969 the Dudleys moved to Stephenville where they currently reside. Could someone give me some information about the bar and about Lon Latta? I'm just curious about the nature of the business more than anything else.
