Hi, Which Kings?In the Txerath Archives is a note which indicates that Dr. King of Tarleton was not related to the King Family of the former Missouri Governor King, whose descendants were attorneys and ran the King and Brauer Title and Abstract on the east side of the Stephenville Courthouse Square. They were apparently Sevier Distant cousin of the Wyly family in Erath County. Nancy Sevier, daughter of Gov. and Col. John Sevier of Tennesse and leader in Rev. War Battle of King's Mountain, North Carolina was the sister of Elizabeth Sevier, , the mother of Sarah Hawkins Clark, who married James Rutherford Wyly in the Governor's Mansion(? Marble Springs Log Cabin ?)when Col, Sevier was Governor at Knoxville. he had 17 children. One was killed at King's Mountain Battle by Maj. Patrick Ferguson's Loyalist Tory Militia. Nancy married Walter King, B. 1764, Virginia. He and Seviers ran a Sullivan County Iron Works, Tennessee. . One of this family was engaged to Sam Houston when she died. Children of Nancy ands Walter were 1. Walter King, left Tennessee Descendants. 2. Amanda, B. 1798 and married in MissouriHusbaands were a Bayless and a Brazeale, who was killed in Misouri by a Mormon group. 3. Gov. Austin Augustus King, B. 9/28/1801, Tennessee MarRied 1. NANCY HARRIS ROBERTS, 2. MARTHA WOODSON, . He buried in Misouri and as a District Judge had sat on the trial of Navoo, Mo. Mormons before they started to Utah. Gov. King had10 children. His sister was head of the House when he was Governor. William's son William m. a Pence in Mo and a Clark in Stephenville, Texas. 4. William Rufus King, 5. Maria 6.Sarah 7. Nancy 8. Louisa, b. 1811, married a Cox, he died and she married his brother. 9. and other children are listed of Gov. King- with several descendants in Erath County, Texas. next Generation-Thomas Benton King, m. Clara Bingham in Erath County and was a Stephenville Teacher, and Judge appx. 1900He was in Texas Legislature, 1919. Austin Augustus King #3 was a Stephenville Newspaper publisher and never married, several more pages of Kinf Descendants in Erath County- too many to list tonight. They should be in the Sevier or King family trees in Rootsweb. Some rumor says that these Kings were related to the owner of the King Ranch, who left Missouri as a Merchant Seaman from a Missouri port- but this has not been positively documented.Supposedly a Shipping Company did some financing of the King Ranch. I also had a Cousin on Wyly Line- MATTIE ROBERTS SOMERVILLE who died in 1990's and I have her records from West Monroe, La. of her Alabama- Ga- Miss. King , Quillian, Sparks, McCarty, Hall, ancestors and kin. - half a File box full. she was a Certified Geneaologist active in DAR in West Monroe and Natchitoches, La. and also has Louisiana Edwards, and Cleveland connections. John Sevier (he REPRESENTS Tennessee IN hall OF state IN Washington d.c. and served in 1st, 3rd, and another U.S. Congress and was Tennessee Gov. at least 6 times..Also Gov. of the rejected State of Franklin ( East Tennessee- West North Carolina. ) he appointed my Wife's Ancestor Jeremiah Jack of Holston , Tenn as first sheriff and County Commisioner of Knox County Tenn. they often visited in the historic Ramsey House of Holston on Sunday nights. Half the book is Family Tree pages of Sevier Descendants from the parents of Marie D'Xavier and Dr. Juan Jasso of Navarre, Aragon, and Pamplona ( Burbons and Basque) down to a few dozen families in Erath County on various lines, sent in by family researchers and recorders. The Book is appx. 500 pages and includes Graves, Hawkins, Kay, Clark, Hatchett, and many other names in Erath County today. This traces the Hugenot Xaviers to England where they joined Sevier kin who had already Anglicized the name. Confused yet?I am - too much info in this book. And yes, Recently said that our Major William Clark who married Elixabeth Sevier, was the baby brother of George Rogers Clark of Lewis and Clark Expeditions up the Missouri. Bosque is a Basque word adopted by Spanish and Basque Soldiers in honor of Grecian Del bosque or Bosque Del Rondo - the Clerk of the Royal Court of Navarre. Documents in the Sevier Family History are signed that way. Crests in this book include, Conway, Craig, Davis, Douglas, Eskeridge, Ewing, Hawkins, Sawyer, Warren, and of St. Francis Xavier.
