Hi, Pony Creek did not join Chalk Mountain- Marble or Martheal's Gap. commonly called "Greasy" School was between them. Brileys of Indian Creek were related to McCartys and had attended 'Greasy". it was near the Howell Dairy and past the Bumper Gate road towards the Paluxy. and the other end went to Iredell back past Marshall Sherrod's and through Maratheal's Gap, east of Skipper's Gap. When Marble closed as inactive, Howells and McKnights came to Johnsville School and others went to Chalk Mountain school, before Pony Creek (Which was made up of 3 smaller schools), Chalk Mountain and Johnsville consolidated to form the Three Way School on Hiway 67 across from the newer Johnsville store and the Johnsville to Pony Creek road. On Hwy 67, the main or Prarie branch of the Duffau Creek crosses Hwy 67 twice, going south the second time, then you cross Pony Creek below the store, which runs north to the Paluxy. The Evans and Gillentine and Box- Pony Creek cemeteries are between the North branch of Duffau Creek and the Pony Creek. Tjhe Box School was cleared on weekends for dances or Community meals. Bro. Becker used to come out from Stephenville and hold Summer Revival Meetings under the Oak Trees at Pony Creek by the church, where it was cool. No tabernacle was used. Maurice Chandler and Autrey Roberson built the present benches in the church and the 3 Sunday School rooms upstairs in the attic. Some thought the water from the Evans- old Pony Creek cemetery was polluting the hand dug well between Pony Creek Church and the old Box Methodist Church School, and lodge hall. Johnsville also had a 2 story building across from Post Office and cotton gin - a Lodge upstairs and a former Blacksmith shop was used by us kids of Johnsville School and retired men for Horseshoes, Washer to, and Dominoes. Next to it in Marion Mills' pasture was the Johnsville Baseball field used by Bosque Valley League. Billy Joe Stasey had left the Roswell team to farm the Chalk Mountain home place and pitched for Johnsville against White Settlement, Iredell, Dublin?, Tolar some, and Grandbury on Sunday afternoons. A Pony Creek Baptist Deacon and Johnsville Church of Christ Elder went to Stephenville together to a Judge who ordered that charging on Sundays was a violation of State Blue Laws of Sunday Observance, sote custom, was begun to pass the hat through the fans. Cled Pruitt of Purves taught us at Johnsville in the "Big Room" and was the Principal . Connie Herring, Ruby Beach Rumph,Clara Atkins, and others had taught in the "Little Room"- grades 1 to 4. 4 th graders taught some spelling and reading to first graders and in doing so, helped themselves to better education. Cled's brother M.B. became a Baptist pastor and pastored at Pony Creek while attending Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. He later pastored a large church near Mesquite, Texas. . He told us one Sunday that at one time he could see 4 to 6 fires "Burning Cedar Brush" where people were cooking off Moonshine. We could see the ridge towards Comanche Peak and some other Hood and Somerville County hills across the Paluxy from the area. Howard Keith of Stephenville- Dublin area also pastored there and Cedar Point, as did Bro. Holt from Bluff Dale. Lost yet? Charles A.
