Hi, Our Reunion mailing list has dropped to 350 to under 100 in 10 years. Why? 1. Some have died, been activated to Military or moved to Rest Homes . Names are dropped if mail is returned. If one does not mail by first class, the intended may not have Mail forwarding set up. In the case of 911 Access areas, they may not have moved and/or their forwarding notices may have expired. Only first class will be returned. 2. Before 911 systems are activated, there is a Federal standard of addresses which must be in place so the new system can locate the address to dispatch the emergency vehicles to. Many Erath and adjoining counties are or have just had many addresses changed on their family homes- and if they do not post the change at the Post office and with Reunion Secretaries and all whoi send them mail and magazines, they may never see the mail. This has happened in Morgan Mill- Lipan and areas across the county lines and many other rural areas, where 911 ispatchers may cover many square miles. 3. Some just won't send their addresses to the Reunion officers. 4. In McLennanCounty,Rural Metro ambulance has served 911 area for over 10 years. Now, East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas is taking over and keeping most workers , plus others and adding more stations for faster service. Now the McClennan County ambulances will be dispatched from Tyler Texas office to local standby stations. Someone that far away can't say "Go past the old Selden Store and second road to the rioght past Jones Dairy" - many roads in Erath County have been closed in last 50 years and new ones added in the name of Progress. Now it is 3 times as far from Selden Church to Selden Cemetery as it was in 1940's- and some in these areas which were once in Stephenville mail Routes aren't now. Hico Post Office serves most of Duffau, Chalk Mountain,Johnsville, and much of Selden rural routes. No, your kin didn't move- just have a new address. Now, apply this to those back East who had lived in 3 States but never moved- Boundaries of Tennesee & adjoining were re- surveyed. Much of East Felicianna Parrish in Louisiana used to be in county with Tippah, Miss. Several Erath County trails passed through there in 1800-s , moving west . Also, it is possible to have lived in the same homesite in Central Texas and been in 3 to 5 Counties as new ones organized and bu=oundaries were re- surveyed. Bosque and Johnson Counties join at the Brazos. Above that. Erath and Johnson Countiues joined for a short time before Somervell County was organized and Hood County took some of Erath County north of the Paluxy River, and similar situations with other counties may make you think your family moved a lot when they may not all have moved. Milam County or Old Milam district once stretched from below Waco almost to Wichita Falls. Take care- and is anyone on this site home this summer? or you all out running down your roots and visiting your kids? Take care, Charles A. Wyly
