    3. HIP HIP HARRAH! I found my grandfather in the 1900 CENSUS RECORDS !!! He worked in the Brickyard - "hiring" My grandfather: Wm Slaughter ... He and his wife Sarah ( sallie) and children were living in Thurber City, Erath Texas, Precinct 7. In 1900 he was 35 years old, B IL IL IL. His father John R. SLAUGHTER, mother, Nancy C Gossage of TN. Each and every census record gives different places of his birth. MO and IL. One is wrong. Which is right? *** 1870 Records, Stone Fort, Pope County Illinois *** Slaughter John, 25 b IL Nancy C, 20 b TN William R, 2 Anderson 6mth. hmmm maybe Alice NOT Anderson? I wonder if census taker made AKKKK a mistake? 1880 Census Records, Grand Pier, Pope County IL William and Nancy Williams Children: Mary Williams, John Williams. and living in their household are: William and Alice, listed as step children. Elijah Williams is noted in the 1900 and later census records. Mary L, b 1875 John R, b 1879 Elijah, b 1887 *Mary apparently stayed with her mother all her life. Searching for her death as well as John R and Elijah. My Slaughter Grands, as I call them, had 3 children while they lived in Thurber City area before moving to Bisbee, Cochise County Arizona. 1900 Census of Thurber, Erath listed: *Burl ( aka Rufus Burl), b 1895 *Minnie ( Minnie Alice) b 1897 *Myrtle ( Myrtle Belle). b 1898 1910 Census of Bisbee, Cochise listed: **William Henry Slaughter b TX ( 1902) **Pearl Ophelia b TX (1910). Grandma didn't make it back to TX for the birth of John/Jack Enness b AZ 1907. I have information regarding my TX- AZ aunts, uncles, nieces/ nephews as related to William and Sarah Slaughter; with information gleaned from census records, IL IRAD database; other online resources, and personal research. * 1867 marriage of my great grandparents John R and Nancy C Gossage, SLAUGHTER, Williams 1867, Pope County Illinois. Alice Slaughter b 1869 stayed in Pope county Illinois, she married a Gilliam and they raised their family just down the road from her mother's farm. Online records indicate she died in Sikeston MO. I would love to hear from any of her relations. *** Research’s Notes & Musings and Meanderings *** June 1880 Nancy C Williams applied for widows benefits of John R SLAUGHTER. I'm assuming that John R Slaughter has died. Searching for his death/burial and his parentage. 1887 Nancy C Williams applies and later received widows pension for William P. Williams. Searching for his death/burial and parentage and siblings. Searching for this particular WILLIAMS and allied families of: GOSSAGE WILLIAMS GILLIAM AND SLAUGHTER of southern Illinois Pope County in particular. Who else of those allied families might have made the journey along with my grandfather when his travels took him to Erath County Texas area after 1880? 1880 census records have my grandfather Wm R Slaughter living G. W. Gossage household, and also living in the household of his mother and stepfather. But I believe the Gossage and Williams farms were close by. ( But that is my supposition.) Searching for information of when he arrived in TX. What other areas of the country did he live/work in after he left Grand Pier, Pope county IL. His sister Alice married and stayed in the area, his step brothers John and Elijah and s-sister Mary stayed on the family farm with their mother Nancy; and as I discovered through researching the census records they later acquired additional acreage and raised their families on their own property. Searching for my relatives of Nancy and William Williams of Grand Pier, Pope County Illinois? I would love to know of them. I have no additional information of their lives, loves, and losses, all the knowledge I have relating to their lives I have gleaned from online resources. CARTER - SLAUGHTER Line Begins 1894 Hill County TX * Sarah Ophelia4 Carter (Silas Monk3, William J.2, John J.1) was born July 13, 1866 in Warren Co., Mississippi, and died February 17, 1948 in Sacramento County, California. She married William Richard Slaughter December 23, 1894 in Hill County, Texas. * Her sister, Mary Elizabeth4 Carter (Silas Monk3, William J.2, John J.1) was born October 21, 1877 in Shubuta, Clarke County, Mississippi, and died October 12, 1963 in Eastland, Eastland Co., Texas. She married Reverend John Robert Slaughter August 23, 1894 in Athens, Henderson County, Texas, son of William Slaughter and Sarah Harper. He was born August 19, 1872 in Athens, Henderson County, Texas, and died February 15, 1959 in Eastland, Eastland Co., Texas. *** This family lived in Stephenville, Erath TX during the same time period as my Grands were living in Thurber City. Any SLAUGHTER with connections to Rev John Robert Slaughter. I have an information source for CARTER researchers of that Slaughter marriage. *** I specifically am researching my Slaughter line trying -very- :( to locate solid family connection/information of my great-grandfather John R Slaughter b 1846 regarding his parents and siblings *** Also does any lister know of additional information resources I could use to determine the year when William RICHARD Slaughter left Pope County IL and began his travels that took him to Thurber City, Erath TX for 10 +/- years ending 1936 Douglas Hospital, Douglas, Cochise AZ. His grave is located in the Bisbee Cemetery. In 1900 Grandma Sarah (Sallie) was 33 years old. ((( In 15 years she had 9 children))) 7 lived. Her last child was born when she was 45. Amazing how strong and sturdy those frontier women were.
