    1. Re: [ERATH] Slaughter, Thurber City 1900
    2. Charles A. Wyly
    3. Hi, not sure aboiut the conmnections but one Slaughter ran the Slaughter (Rexall?) Drug store on the square in Stephenville, 1930's. George Slaughter, descendant of Col. C.C. Slaughter, married Janice Wyly, daughter of Ben Wyly , who sold his business interests in 1880's and came to Stephenville about 1890 and ran a store and sold the Rawhide (hardwood_ lumber his son in law or nephew , cut in Dublin before moving to west of San Angelo. One still operates there. Col. Slaughter's statue on his horse is near the Buckner's Orphan Home in Dqallas. One source says that George and Janice were married in Fort Worth and moved to the Slaughter Ranch land around Lubbock, Levelland, Plainview and west into New Mexico. Janice and son Donaho Wyly Slaughter came to a Stephenville Wyly Reunion appx. 1990. Some of her kin from Tyler, came also. The family has donated a Line shack with a dugout center below ground level for winter, a Windmill, and other buildings to the Texas Tech Ranch Heritagre Museum in Lubbock. It is surrounded by a tall dirt Brem next to the Buddy Holly Museum. My Wife's dad and mom bought some of the Slaughter Ranch about 1920, windmill and later found an underground stream which would pump a full 10" pipe for irrigation, near Pettit, Texas. The Whiteface Farms were once part of the Slaughter Ranch The Ranch home and several acres are left as it was in 1900 , facing the Lubbock Highway. George and janice lived in Roswell many years. Don closed his Albequerque law office and focuses on Roswell and Hockley County and other nearby interests. Once again, I do not know the connections of all of the above Sl;aughters, but they left tracks in Texas and New Mexico. The Slaughter I have taught with in Waco is of African American background.
