I am a little late reading this message but I have Whisenant relatives buried in the Barbee Cemetery. Since they have a prominent section in that cemetery, I have sure that they knew the Barbees. Do you know about this cemetery? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 8:29 PM Subject: [ERATH] Albritton First, this is definitely the most endearing, entertaining and informative of all the mail lists (and there are many) in which I partake. Second, to those of you I've not had the pleasure of meetingâ?"â?"greetings. I am Dana Stripling, granddaughter to Melvin Durward Barbee, of the Barbee and Looney lines in Erath County. The lil' Jones-Barbee cabin which was moved into downtown Dublin belonged to my ancestors. Third, from a completely different side of the family, some of my Louisiana/Georgia/North Carolina family ended up in Dublin and Stephenville. specifically, my great, great, great Aunt, Harriet Louisa ALBRITTON, and Terrell BRYAN married in Bienville Parish, LA on 20 Feb 1855. They were in Erath County for a while after their marriage. Harriet and Terrell lived in Stephenville, and their son, Redic Bryan, moved to Dublin around 1898 or 1899. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this line? Fourth, ironically, before we even knew of Harriet's existence (a product of some GenForum diggins), my grandmother, Laura Irene ALBRITTON, met and married Durward in the very, very small town of Campti Louisiana. Durward brought her back to Dublin. Odd that both ALBRITTONS would end up back in Erath County. Odder still, I thought -- what was my grandfather (some 20 years old at the time) doing in Campti, of all places, selling mules? He must have had some connection to Louisiana. and, indeed, in the Parish in which Campti is placed and surrounding areas, i have found many a BARBEE in the cemeteries and records. but i have not yet made the connection. but, it certainly seems in all this research, particularly back in the early and mid 1800s -- family followed family. that there is generally some familial connection whenever a relative packed up and moved or visited somewhere else. does anyone have any information that might link NW Louisiana to Dublin and Stephenville? Many thanks for your indulgence in my rambling. Keep the wonderful tales coming. Best regards.
