The Lake located about 10 miles north of Stephenville on Hwy. 281 was built by the state as a public works project. The land belonged to John B. Collier, and he gave the land to the State to be used as a park. It was named Garner State Park and was later changed to Stephenville State Park by Special Legislation. The land was to be returned back to the original owner if it ever ceased to be used as a park. It is my understanding it finally was returned back to the Collier Estate due to very much problems of Questionable parties. My wife and I (before Marriage),would use it as our (Pitching WOO). It was a very good place until the roughhousing began. Tyler Pryor
