Charles, Thanks for the info, I am not sure if Odell is related but your rambling was just fine. I like hearing about times past, I think it is a required trait for any genealogist, amateur or pro. If I find Odell in the family line, I will let ya know. Carol Williams "Charles A. Most Norwegians came as a group to Bosque County, below Hico. The same man who led Norwegians to Wisconsin later led the group to Texas - Norse Church, St. Olaf's Kirke at Cranfils Gap, and Clifton area. They found German immigrants and early Anglo settlers in the county, but land was plentiful and the River and creek bottoms were good farming land. They used the rocks from the hills to build houses and fireplaces and fences, and improved the rocky pastures at the same time. There were other more independent Scandavian and/or Germans . I attended school with some Andersons and Bordners- but the European spelling was Bortner, and Andersen. It changed in Erath County. I attended school with a Bordner Anderson , and he has kin buried in Hatchett Cemetery in Selden, about 1 mile across 2 branches of Duffau Creek from my childhood home. Bortners, Andersens, and Riggs families came from Illinois or Wisconsin. My dad Eddie Wyly taught one year in Harmony School near Meridian, in 1920's. he said all the first Grade was Bilingual- some spoke German and others spoke Norwegian and some spoke both. One in first Grade was Lee Ericson, Meridian High Girl's Basketball coach, who won State several times. Dad went to farming when they married, and was on Johnsville School board a few years when they moved a 2 apartment Teacherage to the school ground, , and was backing the 3 Way School Consolidation of Pony Creek, Johnsville, Chalk Mountain, and Inactive Greasy or Marble School. These students attend Hico High School - before consolidation , we attended Stephenville High School . Hope I did not bore you with rambling, but maybe something I mentioned might be a dot that could connect to your info. If your family lived near Hico, their records may be in Stephenville, Hamilton, or Meridian. Would just like to say that I hope someone on this list is keeping a journal of all the things that Mr. Wyly has been so kind to post on this site, it is as if you are doing an interview with the past, with someone that actually lived the times. He makes it seem as if you are right there during that time. Once again thank you Mr. Wyly for the stories of the past, I open each posting knowing that I will have read something that means something to you.
