Hi Shirley, I don't find an Amanda Brooks in my file, but figure she is kin somehow. I also have Caraway's. My grandmother, Alice JACKSON Brooks, was the daughter of George Edward Jackson and Meliza Elizabeth Caraway. Meliza's father was Bryant Caraway. Don't know if any of these Caraway's are a part of your family or not. Alice was born in Hood Co. and she and my grandfather Jesse Newton Brooks lived out their lives in Stephenville. Thanks, Kim! I joined her group and looked at the headstones. It was so nice to see "family" and make a connection. I also sent her some of the information she was missing. A couple of the photos had questions as to who they were. Sarah Herring Claburn Mansfield, TX --- "K. This Marshall R. Caudle is the son of Richard H. Caudle and Eugenia Scogin or Scroggin. Richard H. Caudle was the son of Chesley B. Caudle (1830-1882) and Grace Louise Turnbow (1830-1907). Grace was the dau. of Chesley Turnbow (1805-1880), who led a wagon train of seven families in 1855 from Arkansas to what soon became Erath County. Here is what Delma (Turnbow) Freeman wrote in Our Kin Past and Present, p. 67: RICHARD H. CAUDLE, b. 1858, md. Sept. 4, 1887, to MISS A.E. SCOGIN. [Erath Co. marriage records] Her name was AMANDA EUGENIA, but we are uncertain about the spelling of her last name as the vital statistic records give her name as SCROGGINS. Notes taken from Soundex film by W.O. Sandra, One of my grandmother's friends in Stephenville was a Mrs. Caudle. I don't think I ever knew her first name, but they were probably members of the First Methodist Church. This would have been in the fifties, sixties and probably seventies. Shirley
Thanks Shirley, someone found a marriage record in Comanche County for R. T. and Mary Carter Caudle. I know there is a Caudle Cemetery in Erath County, but don't know if they are connected. Thank you for the information, I'll look around Stephenville and the Methodist Church for any Caudles. Hi, ever hear of Richland-Chambers Creek lake near the Trinity River, between Corsicana, Navarro County and Brownsboro, Texas? It sometimes floods the Corsicana to Brownsboro, Texas Highway. The detour takes about 5 times as long. Charles A. Wesley Chapel Cemetery is north east of Stephenville off of Hwy 377 on Farm Road 1188 I have a partial list of burials from that cemetery (prepared in 1868) and am in the process of preparing a genealogy for the cemetery. I have a granduncle and aunt buried there. Margaret -------------- Original message from "Jackie" <jp55@wt.net>: -------------- > Thanks so much for this information, Tom.
